Ryuzaki Onsen or Yuyu Land? Choosing Between Suo-Oshima’s Two Seaside Baths

Ryuzaki has a saline spring, sauna and bay outlook; cheaper Yuyu Land sits beside Katazoegahama beach and campground. Ryuzaki’s water use by pool is unclear.

Summary: Choose Ryuzaki Onsen for the dark saline spring, sauna, restaurant and Agenesho Bay outlook. Yuyu Land costs less for adults and sits beside Katazoegahama beach, campsites and the RV park. They suit different parts of the island, and Ryuzaki’s current pool-by-pool spring-water use is not fully documented in the latest notice checked here.

The ¥210 adult price difference is straightforward. What changes the decision more is the rest of the day: Ryuzaki fits the island’s Agenesho Bay side, while Yuyu Land is already inside the Katazoegahama beach and camping area.

Ryuzaki’s special ¥520 rate is limited to eligible local seniors and visitors with specified disability certificates. Yuyu Land’s adult price is lower, but its child rate is not consistent across current listings: the operator shows ¥210 for elementary pupils and free entry for infants, while older public pages still show ¥300 for children. Confirm the child total with the facility rather than blending the figures.

Pick by where you will spend the day

After a swim, camping night or RV stay at Katazoegahama, Yuyu Land is the simple extension. You can leave the beach and reach the bathhouse without turning the day into another drive. Its operator currently lists adults at ¥520, elementary-school children at ¥210 and infants free. Older town and tourism pages have not all caught up on the child price, so families should verify it on the day.

Ryuzaki suits a route through the Agenesho Bay area or a visit built around the dark, strongly saline water. The open-air bath looks toward the bay and Mount Dake, and the complex has a restaurant as well as a sauna. Its adult ticket is ¥730. Towels and basic amenities cost extra, generally ¥100 per item; bring one if you would rather not buy or rent at the desk.

The water is not the same story

Yuyu Land’s 2024 spring analysis lists a source temperature of 20.7°C and pH 7.0, with a weakly radioactive sodium-chloride cold spring classification. Its flow rate was not measured in that report. The operator’s page lists the spring and the bathing facilities, but does not give the temperature of each pool.

Ryuzaki is associated with a dark, strong-saline spring. The catch is a maintenance history: the town’s January 2025 notice said that only the outdoor black bath was using source water at that point, while the other baths used tap water. The facility’s current operating page does not give a newer pool-by-pool breakdown. It is reasonable to choose Ryuzaki for its setting and facilities; call first if your decision depends on which pool currently uses the source.

Yuyu Land’s analysis sheet also records radon, but neither facility’s published data should be turned into a claim about therapeutic effects. At both places, source-water figures describe the spring, not a guaranteed bath-pool temperature. Yuyu Land’s measured flow is explicitly listed as unmeasured; there is no responsible litres-per-minute figure to compare.

If you are travelling without a car

Ryuzaki has the simpler published route, though it is not door-to-door: take a bus from Obatake Station to Anko, then walk about 10 minutes. Yuyu Land involves a longer ride to Hirano and a transfer to the general-rider Shiraki Line. That connection rewards a day already spent at Katazoegahama; it is a lot of transport for a short soak alone. Timetables differ by operating day, so plan the return before you go. The Suo-Oshima bus route guide spells out the transfer and last-mile caveats.

Yuyu Land normally closes Wednesdays and on certain year-end dates. It reopened July 6, 2026, after an equipment-related closure.

Ryuzaki closes Mondays and has one additional Tuesday closure each month; check its monthly notice for the exact date. Family-bath bookings are restricted to groups with a care need, an older person, a person with a disability or a child under one year old. Yuyu Land also lists a family bath, but its current conditions and price are not clearly published; phone ahead if private bathing is essential.

Ryuzaki’s published fees let you calculate an adult visit with towels. Yuyu Land lists a bath towel but does not itemize every face towel or wash item on its current operator page; bring your own kit or ask before setting a precise budget.

FacilityEntry and towel costs
Ryuzaki¥730 admission; ¥100 face towel; ¥100 bath-towel rental
Yuyu Land¥100 bath towel; other towel/wash-item prices not itemized

Yuyu Land sits inside a park with about 200 parking spaces, while Ryuzaki lists around 40. Choose based on the island route: Anko and Agenesho Bay for Ryuzaki, Katazoegahama and the eastern side for Yuyu Land. There is little reason to cross the island solely to visit both in one day.
