Hagi Onsenkyo Day-Use Baths: Hagi Honjin, Hagi Kanko Hotel or Mihagi?

Compare Hagi Honjin’s varied baths, Hagi Kanko Hotel’s bay view and Mihagi near Kikugahama. Hours, transport and day-entry availability differ.

Resort Hotel Mihagi on the Hagi coast

For the widest choice of baths, go to Hagi Honjin, but its cheapest window is early afternoon and weekend access has a gap. Hagi Kanko Hotel is the one for a high, open view over Hagi Bay; the catch is getting to and back from its hillside location. Resort Hotel Mihagi fits most naturally after Kikugahama Beach or the old town, though day-use admission can be suspended on busy dates.

The three inns are not branches of one shared hot spring. Each uses a different source, and their day-bath schedules do not line up. That matters more than the small gap between their regular adult prices.

These are the facilities’ published regular terms checked on September 28, 2026. Hagi Honjin posts special-date rates and all three can restrict day visitors, so confirm the notice for your exact date before travelling.

Hagi Honjin: more bathing styles, with a price tied to the clock

Bathing area at Hagi Honjin

Hagi Honjin’s Yu-no-Maru arranges two bathing areas around a garden passage. Across the facility, the listed styles include indoor and outdoor baths, a deep standing bath, a walking bath, jet and bubble baths, reclining pools and sauna. The areas rotate between men and women, so one visit gives you the side assigned to your bathing time—not every feature at once. Its cold bath is supplied with source water at about 29°C; the inn says the main bathing water is heated, circulated, filtered and treated with chlorine-based chemicals.

6–9 p.m.¥1,650 regular; ¥2,500 on listed special datesDay visitors; final reception 8 p.m.

A face towel is included; bath towels are available to rent for an extra charge. Special-date day use is limited to the 1–3 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. slots.

That early ¥1,100 slot works well if the bath itself is a planned stop after the nearby Shōin Shrine area. It is less useful when you want to finish a full day in the castle town first. The hotel also warns that maintenance closures are irregular and that it may refuse day-use entry when overnight guests make the baths busy.

Hagi Kanko Hotel: a hillside bath with a view, not an easy evening detour

The open-air bath looks over Hagi Bay from the slope of Mount Kasayama.

The hotel is around a 10-minute drive from Higashi-Hagi Station. It lists a free station shuttle at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. by reservation, but those times are for hotel access; the published page does not confirm day visitors can use it or arrange a return after bathing.

Confirm the shuttle before relying on it. Otherwise, allow for a taxi or choose one of the other baths closer to the historic center and beach.

Mihagi: easiest to pair with the beach, but check availability first

Mihagi is beside Kikugahama, so it pairs neatly with a coastal walk or a visit to Horiuchi and the castle-town area. Its bath has a large Sea of Japan-facing window, an outdoor bath, sauna, jet bath, waterfall shower and bubble bath.

Mihagi’s Hagi Shizuki source is separate from those used by Hagi Honjin and Hagi Kanko Hotel. The hotel may suspend day use during summer peak periods, Saturdays, consecutive holidays, Golden Week, Obon and year-end/New Year, and it posts occasional maintenance or equipment closures. Its 2026 summer suspension ended August 23; check the latest notice for other dates.

Mihagi is the simplest choice when the beach or historic center is already in your plan. It is not a dependable walk-in stop on a busy weekend; check the hotel’s latest notice before adding it as the final activity of the day.

Which one fits your Hagi day?

  • Hagi Honjin fits a 1–3 p.m. stop when you want the broadest range of bath styles; that is also its lowest-price window.
  • Hagi Kanko Hotel is for the bay view, provided you have transport up Mount Kasayama and back.
  • Mihagi pairs with Kikugahama or the historic district, after you confirm day-use entry for your date.

If you are relying on public transport, treat the three hotels as separate destinations rather than assuming one shuttle or local bus connects them. Hagi Honjin’s access page lists a complimentary pickup from Higashi-Hagi Station and Hagi Meirin Center from 3 to 6 p.m.; Hagi Kanko Hotel’s reserved station shuttle has its own set times. Neither detail by itself confirms a ride for every day-bath visitor. For a similar multi-inn comparison, see the Yuda Onsen day-use guide, Nagato-Yumoto Onsen guide and Tawarayama day-bath guide.

The scenery differs as much as the water: Honjin’s bathing areas face a garden passage, Kanko Hotel looks over Hagi Bay from Mount Kasayama, and Mihagi faces Kikugahama and the Sea of Japan. Honjin has the broadest sauna selection, but the men’s and women’s layouts rotate, so one visit does not cover every feature. Honjin and Mihagi list private-bath options separately; confirm day-visitor eligibility and the total cost first. Tattoo policies are not consistently stated across all three hotels, so ask the property you choose rather than assuming a shared rule.
