Myoban Onsen Day Trip: Yunosato, Yuya Ebisu or Hoyo Land?
Compare three Beppu Myoban day-use baths: Yunosato’s milky outdoor spring, Yuya Ebisu’s private rooms and Hoyo Land’s mineral mud. Check prices and access.
For a milky outdoor soak and a hillside view, Myoban Yunosato is the easy first stop; a private bath points you to Yuya Ebisu. Hoyo Land is for people specifically curious about mineral mud and comfortable with mixed-gender outdoor bathing.
The comparison below is about fit and practical limits; admission and room prices appear once in each facility’s section. Yen is the listed price, with rough Hong Kong dollar and Taiwan dollar estimates using September 30, 2026 rates. Check current notices before setting out, since weather and maintenance can change access.
| If you want… | Start with… | Check before you go |
|---|---|---|
| A milky public bath with hillside views | Myoban Yunosato | No showers; weather can alter operations |
| A private outdoor soak | Yuya Ebisu | Rooms are assigned on arrival; monthly maintenance closures are irregular |
| Both sulfur and clear spring water | Yuya Ebisu’s public bath | Men’s and women’s bathing areas rotate by day |
| Mineral mud | Hoyo Land | The main outdoor mud baths are mixed-gender; children face age restrictions |
| Tattoo-friendly facilities | All three are listed as candidates by Beppu Tourism | Confirm any on-site conditions directly |
For bus-only logistics and timing the return journey, see the Myoban Onsen route without a car. If you need a private bath elsewhere in Beppu, the Beppu private-bath day-use comparison covers other areas.
Three baths, three different reasons to go
Myoban Yunosato’s main draw is its gender-separated outdoor rock bath, with an indoor bath on each side. Four separate family-bath huts are also available, though the operator does not describe them as private outdoor baths.
Yuya Ebisu has the clearest private-bath option here: five outdoor rooms, including two with whirlpool tubs. Its public bath also offers both milky sulfur water and clear simple spring water, along with indoor and outdoor bathing areas.
Hoyo Land is the outlier. People come for the mineral mud, not a conventional family bath. Indoor baths are separated by gender, while the large outdoor mud pool and a smaller outdoor pool are mixed-gender. There is no listed day-use private bath, so cross it off if a private soak is essential.
Myoban Yunosato: a scenic public bath, with no showers
| Admission | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult | ¥800 |
| Child, age 4 through elementary school | ¥400 |
The bath and indoor tubs are generally open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, with reception ending at 7:00 pm. Weather can alter the hours or bring an unannounced closure, so this is a poor choice to leave until the last minutes of a mountain-area itinerary.
The bath sits high above Beppu. From the milky sulfur water, the view takes in Myoban Bridge, Mount Tsurumi and Takasaki Mountain. Each side has an indoor tub as well, so the public ticket covers the straightforward version of the Myoban experience without needing to plan around a private-room slot.
Four family-bath huts, but not four private open-air baths
| Family-bath huts | Price per room |
|---|---|
| Three huts | ¥2,000 per hour |
| One hut | ¥2,500 per hour |
The listed rate covers the room for an hour, not each bather, so it can suit two people who want to bathe together behind a closed door. You cannot reserve by phone: staff take requests in person in arrival order. The general window is 10:00 am–7:00 pm, with reception until 6:00 pm; times cannot be selected, and the operator says confirmed, prepaid bookings cannot be cancelled. If you specifically want a private bath outdoors, choose Yuya Ebisu; Yunosato does not list its four huts as open-air baths.
Bring a towel, and plan to rinse elsewhere if needed
Yunosato says the water quality means it does not install showers in either the outdoor bath or family-bath huts. Body soap and hair dryers are provided, but towels are not rented: bring your own or buy one on site. This is a meaningful difference if you want a full wash after a long journey. For a soak and the view, the setup is simpler; for a shower-and-wash stop, Yuya Ebisu is the more practical fit.
Beppu’s tourism listing marks Yunosato as tattoo-friendly. The operator’s own bathing pages do not spell out a tattoo policy, so check at reception if you have a specific concern. The sulfur water can discolor jewelry and precious metals; the facility asks bathers to remove them before entering.
Yuya Ebisu: the clearest choice for a private outdoor soak
The shared public bath usually opens 10:00 am–10:00 pm, with last reception at 9:00 pm.
| Public-bath admission | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult | ¥1,300 |
| Adult ticket with bath-and-face towel set | ¥1,700 |
| Middle-school student | ¥600 |
| Elementary-school child | ¥400 |
| Towel set only | ¥400 |
The facility closes for maintenance once a month on an irregular date. Its homepage posts the specific closure, so check it for your travel date rather than relying on a fixed weekday.
Private outdoor rooms: weekday and holiday prices
There are five private outdoor baths: three without a whirlpool and two with one.
| Private bath | Weekday, per room / hour | Saturday, Sunday or public holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Without whirlpool (3 rooms) | ¥2,000 | ¥2,500 |
| With whirlpool (2 rooms) | ¥2,300 | ¥2,500 |
Weekday sessions run 11:00 am–8:00 pm; weekends and public holidays start at 10:00 am. Last reception is 7:00 pm on all those days. Advance reservations are not accepted: rooms are assigned in person on the day, in order. If a private soak is the one part of the day you cannot miss, leave slack in your transport plan in case a room is occupied when you arrive.
The public bath has two spring types
Ebisu’s public bath has milky sulfur water and clear simple spring water. The first floor has the larger outdoor area and a traditional box-steam bath; the second floor has indoor and semi-outdoor tubs. The bathing layout rotates between men and women by day, so a mixed-gender group should not expect to use the same set of pools on the same visit.
This is a better match than Yunosato if one person wants sulfur water while another would like a clear-water option. For a single milky outdoor soak, Yunosato is the less expensive choice. Beppu’s tourism listing marks Yuya Ebisu as tattoo-friendly; check directly with the facility if you need confirmation of a particular tattoo-related condition.
Hoyo Land: put the mud bath first in your plans
Hoyo Land is generally open for day visitors from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.
| Day admission | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult | ¥1,500 |
| Middle-school student | ¥1,100 |
| Elementary-school child | ¥600 |
| Child age 5 or under | ¥350 |
The draw is Kōya mineral mud. The indoor underground mud bath is separated by gender, as are the colloid and steam baths. The large outdoor mud pool and the smaller outdoor pool are mixed-gender. If anyone in your group is uncomfortable with mixed bathing, the indoor baths remain an option, but do not build the visit around the outdoor mud pool. There is no confirmed private day-use bath.
Check the bathing restrictions before bringing children
Hoyo Land does not allow infants through elementary-school-age children into the underground mineral-mud bath. Children who are not toilet-trained may use only the colloid bath, not the mud bath. For a family whose main goal is bathing in the mud together, this facility will not meet that expectation.
The operator advises moving to another bath after about 10–15 minutes in the underground mud bath rather than soaking for a long stretch. Beppu’s tourism listing marks Hoyo Land as tattoo-friendly, but the facility’s posted rules on the day still take precedence.
The facility has announced accommodation restrictions from September 28 to November 13, 2026, but says day-use bathing continues as usual apart from filming closures on October 8 and October 14. Do not mistake the lodging restriction for a full closure, and recheck the official notice if visiting on either date.
Getting to Myoban by bus
Myoban is not a walk-from-Beppu-Station bathing area. For Yunosato, the operator’s directions say to take a Kamenoi Bus toward APU and get off at Jizōyu-mae; the walk from the stop is about three minutes. For Yuya Ebisu, the operator lists routes 5, 24 and 41 from Beppu Station West Exit to Myoban. The private-bath entrance is across the road from the stop; the public bath is about a three-minute walk away.
Hoyo Land’s official access page gives driving directions from Beppu Station, but does not make a bus itinerary equally clear. The nearest stop is Konya Jigoku-mae; check the timetable and return service before relying on the bus, especially if you are going late in the day. If the last return bus would leave little margin, a taxi or rental car is the safer plan.
Two nearby baths that should not be treated as open
Myoban Yama-no-yu suspended both its lookout bath and family baths from April 1, 2026, because its spring flow had continued to decline. The operator has not announced a reopening date. Old pages showing its baths or prices are not evidence that it is operating now.
Tsurujusen has been closed since March 16, 2020, pending a spring-source repair. Beppu City’s closure calendar, updated September 18, 2026, still lists it as closed for an indefinite period. A static page that retains normal opening hours should not override that notice.
