Dogo Onsen Honkan Tickets: Which Bathing Plan Should You Choose?
Compare Dogo Onsen Honkan tickets by bath access, rest areas, Yushinden admission and time limits. The third-floor private rooms are for resting, not bathing.
At Dogo Onsen Honkan, the ticket price depends on which bath you want and whether you would use a shared rest area or a private room afterwards. The ¥700 downstairs ticket covers Kami-no-yu only. A Rei-no-yu plan gives access to both Kami-no-yu and Rei-no-yu; Yushinden admission comes with the second- and third-floor options.
The four standard bathing plans
| Plan | Adult / child | Includes | Time limit | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kami-no-yu, downstairs | ¥700 / ¥350 | Kami-no-yu only; no rest area | 60 minutes | A straightforward bath with little time to spare |
| Kami-no-yu, second-floor seating | ¥1,300 / ¥650 | Kami-no-yu, shared second-floor rest area, yukata, tea and a sweet | 60 minutes | A short rest after one bath |
| Rei-no-yu, second-floor seating | ¥2,000 / ¥1,000 | Both baths, shared rest area, Yushinden visit, yukata, towels, tea and a sweet | 60 minutes | Two baths plus the historic rooms |
| Rei-no-yu, third-floor private room | ¥2,500 / ¥1,250 | Both baths, a private rest room and Yushinden visit | 90 minutes | A longer visit with your own place to sit |
Children aged 2–11 use child tickets; ages 12 and over pay the adult fare. For Yushinden, the child rate applies to ages 6–11. The “private room” plan provides a room to rest in, not a private bath: both baths remain shared public bathing areas.
| Plan | Bathing hours | Ticket sales end |
|---|---|---|
| Kami-no-yu downstairs | 6 a.m.–11 p.m. | 10:30 p.m. |
| Kami-no-yu, second floor | 6 a.m.–10 p.m. | 9 p.m. |
| Rei-no-yu, second floor | 6 a.m.–10 p.m. | 9 p.m. |
| Rei-no-yu, third-floor room | 6 a.m.–10 p.m. | 8:30 p.m. |
The time limit starts on entry, so leave room for changing and washing.
What the upgrade actually buys
The second-floor Kami-no-yu plan adds a shared rest area, yukata, tea and a sweet; it does not add another bath. Rei-no-yu plans include both bathing areas and a Yushinden visit. The second-floor plan has a shared lounge and rental towels; the third-floor plan gives you a private room to rest in and a longer visit window. Neither plan turns the baths into private bathing areas.
| Yushinden-only visit | Adult | Child (ages 6–11) | Hours | Visit time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guided tour | ¥500 | ¥250 | 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; ticket sales end 4:30 p.m. | About 30 minutes |
Combining the tour with both baths on a 60-minute plan leaves little time for changing and washing.
Private rooms are for resting, not bathing
The Honkan also has two bookable third-floor rooms, Hishō-no-Ma and Shirasagi-no-Ma. Each reservation covers the room only; bathing is charged separately. Both rooms are for resting, not private bathing.
| Room | Room fee | Booking length | Daily slots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hishō-no-Ma | ¥3,000 | 90 minutes | 5 fixed start times |
| Shirasagi-no-Ma | ¥6,000 | 90 minutes | 5 fixed start times |
| Separate bath ticket | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Admission | ¥1,300 | ¥650 |
These rooms require advance reservations, normally available from 90 days before the visit. Online bookings close at 10 pm the day before; for a same-day booking, call the Honkan. Standard bathing tickets do not require a reservation. When the baths are busy, the staff may issue timed queue tickets, and an estimated wait is not a guarantee of entry. Follow the return instructions if you leave while waiting.
Is the three-bath pass a better deal?
| Three-facility pass | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Price | ¥1,440 | ¥680 |
| Includes | One entry each at Kami-no-yu downstairs, Tsubaki-no-yu and Asuka-no-yu’s first-floor bath | Same |
| Validity | Day of purchase and the following day | Same |
The pass cannot be upgraded by paying the difference. It suits a visit that includes all three facilities; for the Honkan alone, the ¥700 Kami-no-yu ticket is simpler. The pass price changed on 1 September 2026.
Check access before choosing a plan
Dogo Onsen Honkan is a historic wooden building with steps around the entrance, changing areas and pools. A second- or third-floor plan adds a place to rest but does not make the route to the baths step-free. The city’s accessibility guide describes differences at the Honkan, Asuka-no-yu and Tsubaki-no-yu; check it against the needs of anyone in your group before booking or joining a queue.
If you are comparing the Honkan with the other public baths, the Dogo day-use guide covers the step-free routes and what each facility offers. For the water itself, Matsuyama City distinguishes the spring-source temperature from the temperature at the bathing facility; published figures are not a promise that every bath stays at one temperature throughout the day. The city also lists chlorine disinfection, even though the baths are supplied with Dogo spring water.
