Day-Use Baths in Oigami Onsen: Hanatei, Gorokaku or Toumeikan?
Choose an Oigami Onsen day bath: Hanatei for a full spa visit, Gorokaku for valley views and mixed bathing, or Toumeikan for a sulfur spring.
Oigami Onsen is a small hot-spring district on the Katashina River, north of Numata. It is quieter and less walkable as a sightseeing town than Kusatsu: the river and the road shape the area, while the inns and public bathing options are spread out. If you want a day bath here, decide first whether you are looking for a long visit, a particular outdoor bath or a no-frills soak.
The three options do not sell the same kind of visit
| Facility | Published day-use information | What it is best for |
|---|---|---|
| Yuomoto Hanatei | ¥1,000 all-day admission; usually 11 a.m.–7 p.m., last entry 6 p.m.; open Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays | Garden-style baths, rest room and a meal stop |
| Gorokaku | Noon–3 p.m.; ¥1,000 for one hour or ¥2,000 for two hours | Katashina Gorge views and a short bath visit |
| Toumeikan | Noon–8 p.m.; last entry 7 p.m.; call to confirm the day-use price | A straightforward visit to its own sulfur spring |
Hanatei gives you the most time on site
Yuomoto Hanatei is the practical choice when you want to spend a few hours bathing and resting, rather than drop into a ryokan bath for one short slot. The operator lists ¥1,000 for an all-day admission, ¥500 for elementary-school children and no admission charge for children aged six and under. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hair dryers are provided. Towel rental is extra: ¥300 for a bath towel or yukata, and ¥300 for a face towel to buy.
The current regular schedule is 11 a.m.–7 p.m., with last entry at 6 p.m. It is listed as open Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Maintenance can change that schedule; check the latest notice before setting out, particularly for a weekday visit. The restaurant’s last order is listed at 3 p.m., so do not assume you can eat there after a late afternoon soak.
Hanatei has an indoor bath, a garden-style outdoor bath and shared rest space. Paid private rooms are available from two hours, but they are separate from admission and the operator recommends booking them ahead. This is the easiest of the three to recommend if you are travelling with family or want a place to sit after the bath.
Gorokaku is mainly about the outdoor baths
Gorokaku’s day-bathing window is short: noon to 3 p.m. The posted rates are ¥1,000 for one hour and ¥2,000 for two hours. Its signature outdoor baths look over the valley, but two of them—Akagi-no-Yu and Iwakagami—are mixed-gender. The inn provides bathing garments for guests who want to use them and lists gender-specific bathing times, though those periods are not a substitute for checking which pools a day visitor can access at the time of arrival.
This is a focused stop, not an all-afternoon spa. Call the inn before travelling if the mixed-bath arrangement, which tub is open or what the posted day-use price includes will determine your choice. If shared bathing is not comfortable for you, choose Hanatei or Toumeikan instead of paying to avoid the main feature.
Toumeikan is the one to choose for its spring, not its facilities
Toumeikan accepts day visitors from noon to 8 p.m., with last entry at 7 p.m. Its FAQ says hours may be shorter on busy holidays.
The inn describes its No. 3 source as a simple sulfur spring. It says the bathing water is not diluted, heated, circulated or filtered, and receives no bathing additives or chlorine. The posted analysis gives 55.6°C and pH 8.4; it is dated 2012, not a new 2026 test.
The inn has separate indoor and outdoor baths and a tatami rest room with a water dispenser for day visitors. The guest-room baths are not spring-fed. Unlike the other two properties, the operator’s current FAQ does not give a day-use admission price. Ask when you call rather than relying on older listings. The FAQ also says the inn has posted a one-day closure for bathing and lodging on October 14, 2026; confirm any later closure notices for your date.
Getting there without a car
The Oigami Onsen association lists buses from Numata Station at about 50 minutes and from Jomo-Kogen Station at about 70 minutes. Get off at Oigami Onsen or Shimokaido. That route serves the district, but each bath is not necessarily right at the stop, and the timetable changes seasonally. The association’s free Jaou shuttle is reserved for overnight guests at Senkyou, Awashima and Gorokaku; day visitors cannot use it.
By car, the association estimates about 20 minutes from Numata IC. In winter, Toumeikan says its nearest bus stop may be Oharai Oigami Iriguchi, around two kilometres from the inn, rather than Oigami Onsen; the seasonal changeover date varies. Check the bus operator’s current timetable and road conditions, and confirm the route to the specific bath rather than planning only to the district name.
A quick choice
Pick Hanatei for time, amenities and a rest area. Choose Gorokaku only if its short window and shared-bath arrangements work for you. Go to Toumeikan when the water itself is the reason for the visit—and confirm the entry price and any maintenance notice first.
If you have not decided which part of Gunma to visit, start with the Gunma onsen area guide. For a different northern-Gunma comparison, the Minakami day-bath guide covers a separate set of mountain facilities.
