Himi Onsen Day Trip: Choosing Between Three Seaside Baths
Compare Himi’s Sōyu, Isopp and Umiakari by admission, spring-water details, bus access and current day-use restrictions.
Checked: September 27, 2026 Himi’s three best-known day-bathing options are not interchangeable. Himi Onsenkyo Sōyu is the easy add-on to Himi Banya-gai seafood market. Nadaura Onsen Motoyu Isopp is cheaper and publishes unusually clear details about its spring, but it sits farther up the coast. Umiakari’s main building is still open; its current day-use offer is a meal-and-bath package, not the ¥660 walk-in bath that older pages may describe.
For a straightforward soak after the market, choose Sōyu. Isopp suits a trip that already includes the Nadaura coast and a bus timetable that works both ways. Pick Umiakari when lunch and a longer hotel visit are part of the plan, and book ahead.
Compare the day-use options
| Bath | Adult price | Day-use hours | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Himi Onsenkyo Sōyu | ¥950 | 10:00–23:00; last entry 22:00. Weekend and holiday morning bathing starts at 07:00. | Easiest to combine with Himi Banya-gai; towel costs are extra. |
| Nadaura Onsen Motoyu Isopp | ¥700 | 11:00–17:00 | The bus to Tomari is limited; check the return before you go. |
| Umiakari main building | From ¥3,740 for a meal-and-bath plan, plus ¥150 bathing tax | Package use 10:30–15:00; main bath access 11:00–15:00 | Advance booking, limited daily places, and day-use guests cannot use the hotel’s free station shuttle. |
The old ¥660 single-bath option at Umiakari was for its annex, Shio no Kotei. The hotel announced on August 29, 2026 that the annex was closed long term after disaster damage, with no reopening date. A September 1 notice said the main building and its baths were operating normally. Don’t treat an old annex price or its old opening hours as a current offer.
Sōyu: the simplest bath to add after the fish market
Sōyu stands beside Himi Banya-gai, making it easy to pair with the fish market or local shops.
| Sōyu admission and towels | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥950 |
| Child admission | ¥500 |
| Infant admission | ¥100 |
| Face towel | ¥200 |
| Bath-towel rental | ¥300 |
Bring your own towel to avoid the extra purchase or rental.
The facility lists indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna and washing areas. Its water is described as a natural sodium-chloride spring and source-fed. The site does not publish a precise source temperature or the temperature of each tub, so there’s no sound basis for quoting a bathing-water temperature.
It opens daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last admission at 10 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, morning bathing begins at 7 a.m. The adjacent dining room has separate hours and a Thursday closure; eating there does not require a bath ticket. Check its schedule if the meal is part of your plan.
The loop bus takes about 12 minutes from JR Himi Station to Himi Banya-gai. Its published weekday departures are 9:25 a.m., 12:40 p.m., 2:20 p.m. and 4:05 p.m.; weekend and holiday times differ.
On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from September 5 through December 27, 2026, a reserved direct bus runs between Kanazawa and Himi Banya-gai. It leaves Kanazawa at 9:30 a.m. and returns from Himi at 4 p.m. The fare is ¥1,000 each way. This is not a daily service; check availability and reserve with the operator before planning around it.
Isopp: low admission, but plan around the bus
Isopp is a small inn in Tomari, north of central Himi. Its day-use bath costs ¥700 for adults and ¥400 for children, and the published window is 11 a.m.–5 p.m. The operator warns that construction, closures or private group use can shorten access, so confirm the day’s availability before making the trip.
The inn says its spring is drawn from about 1,000 metres underground. The source is listed at 56.8°C, and the operator describes the public bath as source-fed without added water or reheating. That refers to the source and supply policy, not a claim that the bath itself sits at 56.8°C.
Kaetsunou Bus serves the stop “Tomari — Minshuku Isopp.” These published weekday examples show the journey times:
| Direction | Example service |
|---|---|
| Himi Station to Tomari | 10:07 a.m. departure; 10:22 a.m. arrival, before the bath opens |
| Tomari to Himi Station | 12:11 p.m. to 12:27 p.m.; 6:01 p.m. to 6:17 p.m. |
These are examples, not a daily frequency guarantee. Check the date, direction and service calendar; take a taxi or drive if the return bus does not fit.
Isopp is a better fit when you are already heading along the Nadaura coast than when you are staying by Banya-gai and have only a short gap. The ¥250 saving over Sōyu can disappear quickly in extra transport or waiting time.
Umiakari: book a meal with the bath
Umiakari’s main building has a large public bath and an outdoor bath overlooking Toyama Bay. Its regular bathing hours for hotel guests are not the same thing as day-visitor access. The current day-use page offers meal plans that include bathing; the simplest listed plan starts at ¥3,740 per person, with a separate ¥150 bathing tax.
The main building identifies two wells at 56.8°C and 52.2°C and describes its bathing water as 100% natural hot spring. Those are source temperatures, not pool temperatures, and the current page does not publish a complete treatment record for every tub. The ¥660 stand-alone bath older listings associate with the annex does not apply while Shio no Kotei remains closed long term.
| Umiakari lunch-and-bath plan | Published terms |
|---|---|
| Daily capacity | Five groups |
| Facility use | 10:30 a.m.–3 p.m. |
| Lunch seating | Noon–2 p.m. or 12:30–2:30 p.m. |
| Reservation lead time | At least three days |
Reserve through the booking page; confirm its listed price and terms for your date.
One important transport distinction: Umiakari’s free shuttle between JR Himi Station and the hotel is for overnight guests. The reservation page explicitly says day-use plan customers cannot use it because of the schedule. Don’t calculate a day visit using the hotel’s accommodation shuttle; check public transport for your date or budget for a taxi/car.
Which one fits your day?
If your main stop is Himi Banya-gai, Sōyu takes the least planning and lets you decide on the day. Its late closing time also leaves room for a meal or market visit first.
Isopp makes sense when the coast is part of the outing and you can match the bath’s 11 a.m.–5 p.m. window to the bus. Check both directions before leaving Himi Station; a convenient outbound trip does not guarantee a convenient ride back.
Umiakari is a planned half-day: book the lunch-and-bath package, then solve the transport separately. It costs several times more than a public bath, but the price includes lunch and access to the main-building baths rather than just entry to a tub.
Ask about body-art rules before bathing
The current official pages do not clearly explain their body-art admission rules. If this could affect your visit, contact the facility before setting out; an unlisted rule is not the same as permission.
More day-trip planning
If you’re comparing other coastal baths, see the Echizen Coast day-onsen guide and the Tokyo Bay day-onsen guide. For a different seaside destination, the Shimoda day-bath comparison lays out another set of access and bathing trade-offs.
Travel connections from Kanazawa are covered in the Wakura access guide and Kaga Onsen access guide. For more regional day-use comparisons, browse Amihari Onsen or the Gozu Onsenkyo comparison. The Atami day-trip versus overnight guide is useful if you’re weighing a day visit against staying near the coast.
