How to Get from Kanazawa to Wakura Onsen in 2026
Noto Kagaribi trains take about an hour from Kanazawa, but Wakura Onsen Station is outside the resort. Plan the bus, taxi or hotel pickup.

The train ride from Kanazawa is the easy part. The detail that catches people out is that Wakura Onsen Station sits outside the main hot-spring district, so you still need a short onward ride. In 2026, some Noto Kagaribi services also terminate at Nanao rather than Wakura. Check the destination shown for your specific departure before building a tight connection.

The direct train is quick, but not every service goes all the way
The current 2026 timetable includes direct Noto Kagaribi services between Kanazawa and Wakura Onsen. The Wakura tourism association’s timetable lists representative departures at 8:58, 10:00, 12:57 and 14:00 from Kanazawa, reaching Wakura in roughly 58–62 minutes. The 18:06 Noto Kagaribi No. 9 is different: it ends at Nanao. Do not treat it as a direct train to the hot-spring district.

For the return, examples of direct services from Wakura include 15:32–16:36 and 18:44–19:54 to Kanazawa. These are timetable examples, not a promise for every travel date. JR West can change or suspend services, so check the date-specific timetable before you leave.
If the direct train does not suit your schedule, local trains can connect through Nanao. That can be a practical option if you are already visiting Nanao, but compare the connection and waiting time rather than assuming a local train is automatically faster or cheaper overall. The Noto Railway also serves the Nanao–Wakura corridor; confirm which operator and station your itinerary uses.
Wakura Onsen Station is not the town centre
The station and the main hot-spring district are separate stops. The tourism association’s 2026 transport guide lists the Hokutetsu Noto Bus from Wakura Onsen Station to the Wakura Onsen bus terminal at ¥370, taking around five to seven minutes on the listed examples. Buses are not frequent enough to assume one will be waiting when your train arrives.
Before travelling, check the current bus timetable and confirm the stop name. If you are staying overnight, ask your inn whether it offers a station pickup, where to wait and whether you need to reserve. Recovery work can change entrances and access arrangements, so an old hotel shuttle schedule is not a reliable substitute for a current confirmation.
A taxi may make sense with several people or bulky luggage, particularly if the next bus is far off. If you are visiting So-yu for the day, leaving large bags in Kanazawa or Nanao is easier than taking them into the district and back out again.
Plan the return before you start bathing
So-yu’s listed closing time is 9 p.m., but that does not mean you can catch a train back to Kanazawa at the same hour. Pick a return train first, then work backwards from its departure: allow time to leave the bath, reach the bus stop, wait for the bus and get from the terminal to the station. A missed direct train may mean a Nanao connection and a longer wait.
If you arrive in Kanazawa late in the day, the 18:06 train’s Nanao terminus matters. You may be able to continue by local train or bus, but only after checking the connection for that date. For a less rushed arrival, stay in Kanazawa and take a morning direct service the next day.
