Chitose Onsen or Mizonokuchi Onsen Kirari? A Kawasaki Side-by-Side

Chitose Onsen and Mizonokuchi Onsen Kirari sit in the same part of Kawasaki, but they sell different kinds of bathing visits. Chitose is a neighborhood sento with a genuine black spring and a simple entry fee. Kirari is an adults-only day spa where a basic ticket already covers several baths and two sauna styles.

Pick by the time you have

Chitose suits a short visit: walk from Musashi-Shinjo Station, use the outdoor bath with naturally dark spring water, then leave without a timed stay plan.

Kirari works better for a longer afternoon or evening across its spring baths, sauna, bedrock room and rest area. The bedrock room closes at 11 p.m.

Kirari’s late weekday rate only helps if you arrive with time to use the room.

The time window matters as much as the ¥510 weekday admission gap. Kirari opens at 9 a.m., takes its last bath admission at 11:30 p.m. and closes at midnight; Chitose opens at 2 p.m. on weekdays, shuts every Friday, and closes at 11 p.m. on weekends and holidays. For an early start or a long afternoon, Kirari has the edge. After dinner on a weekday, Chitose is the easier short visit.

“Natural spring” means something different at each one

Chitose’s dark spring is classified by the facility as an alkaline sodium-bicarbonate mineral spring. The black water is the visual signature, and the stone-garden-style outdoor pool is where you find it. The source pages do not publish a current full set of chemistry figures for a direct numerical comparison.

Kirari’s spring is sodium bicarbonate. Its upper outdoor pool is designated source-flow, while the lower rock bath is heated and recirculated. The basic ticket also includes two sauna styles, a cold bath and the indoor bathing area. This is the stronger fit if a clear source-flow pool and a half-day range of facilities matter more than the lowest admission price.

The age rule can decide it for you

Chitose lists child fares and has a kids’ corner upstairs. Kirari does not admit elementary-school children; entry is restricted to junior-high age and older. Tattoos and tattoo stickers are prohibited at Kirari. Chitose’s current public fee and facility pages do not give a clear tattoo rule, so do not assume one way or the other without checking with the bathhouse.

Chitose charges separately for its sauna; Kirari includes a high-temperature sauna, salt sauna and cold bath with admission. The bedrock room is a separate, longer-stay option. For scheduled aufguss or a deeper cold plunge, compare both with Yuiru.

From Mizonokuchi Station’s south exit, Tokyu Bus service 5 toward Kani-ga-ya stops at Tachibana Elementary School, beside Kirari. Chitose is the easier rail-and-walk option. For the other Kawasaki baths, the four-facility day-onsen guide compares spring, sauna and access in one place.
