Matsuyama New Grand Hotel: A City Stay with a Free-Flowing Onsen
Check Matsuyama New Grand Hotel’s 36°C free-flowing onsen, day-use price, overnight guest hours, room limits and access before booking.
Matsuyama New Grand Hotel is a business-style hotel in the city centre, about a four-minute walk from Okaido tram stop. Its first-floor bath, Yururin, includes a source-temperature pool the hotel identifies as 100% free-flowing, plus a separate heated pool at about 41°C. Staying here can work well if you want an overnight soak without basing yourself in Dogo Onsen.
The trade-off is location and style. This is a central-city hotel, not a traditional inn beside Dogo Onsen Honkan, and it does not advertise a private hot-spring bath in every guest room. Its clearest selling point is the public bath and its published water details.
What is in the bath
The hotel says the spring is drawn from about 670 metres underground. Its analysis lists an alkaline simple spring with a source temperature of 36.4°C. The 36°C source bath is marked 100% free-flowing by the operator. A second bath is heated to around 41°C and has jet functions; do not confuse that pool with the source-temperature bath.
The men’s bathing area also lists a sauna and cold bath. The women’s page lists the two baths but does not list a sauna. Both areas provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The women’s bath closes from 3:30 to 4:30 a.m. for cleaning; the hotel’s posted rules also prohibit tattoos in the public bath.
Hours, day use and towels
Hotel guests can use the public bath from 3 p.m. until 10 a.m. the next morning. The hotel says overnight guests may return repeatedly during that window. Towels from your room should be brought to the bathing area; additional face and bath towels are available to rent from reception for ¥100 each.
Day visitors are currently listed from 3 p.m. to midnight, with last entry at 11 p.m. Admission is ¥1,000 for two hours, or ¥500 for children through elementary-school age. The day-use page says towels and basic toiletries are available. Walk-in access may be refused when the bath is busy, so call ahead if a visit is essential to your schedule.
Who should book here?
Consider the hotel if you want a central base near restaurants, shops and the tram, and expect to make use of the late-opening bath. It is also a rare easy-to-understand option if a published free-flowing source-temperature bath is high on your list. The sources confirm the operator’s claim for that named bath; they do not establish that every pool uses untreated source water.
If a private bath is more important than free-flowing water, Check In Matsuyama has a family-bath option listed as free for hotel guests, subject to asking reception on the day. Dormy Inn Matsuyama offers a different shared-bath setup, with an outdoor bath and sauna in both public bathing areas. For the historic hot-spring town itself, compare the Dogo ryokan guide.
Getting there
The hotel directs visitors to Okaido, reached by tram from JR Matsuyama Station in about 15 minutes. From Okaido stop, it is roughly a four-minute walk (about 400 metres). Matsuyama Airport limousine buses also serve Okaido; the hotel’s access page gives an approximate 30-minute journey from the airport. Transit times are planning estimates, so check the current service timetable for your travel date.
