Anegawa Onsen: A Quieter Bathing Stop near Nagahama
What to know before visiting Anegawa Onsen near Nagahama: adult admission, hot spring temperatures, the ceramic-plate bath, strict entry rules and taxi access.
Anegawa Onsen is a day-use facility in Nagahama, serving the Anegawa and Torahime area. The bathing mix is more measured than a big resort spa: natural hot spring baths, an artificial high-concentration carbonated bath, a ceramic-plate heated room and places to sit down between soaks. The spring is reported at about 41°C and 42.5°C in the two main bathing settings; those figures describe the water used for those baths, not a promise that every tub will feel the same.
Admission and what to bring
Adult admission is ¥1,075. Children are admitted only from elementary-school age; the current listed child price is ¥545. A standard towel set costs ¥345, so an adult arriving without towels should budget about ¥1,420. The facility also has a membership price, but the annual fee means a one-off visitor is unlikely to save money. Check the current tariff before a repeat visit, as older listings still show lower prices.
The “Revival Bath” is a heated mineral-stone bath, not a second natural spring. Likewise, the carbonated bath is an artificial bath. Keeping those distinctions clear matters if you are visiting specifically for the spring water.
Restrictions are unusually strict
The operator currently excludes children below elementary-school age, wheelchair users and people who cannot walk and bathe independently. Tattoos, body paint and tattoo seals are also listed as grounds for refusal; a cover sticker is not a workaround. If any of these details affect your party, choose another facility rather than relying on discretion at the door.
Public transport is possible but expensive: a taxi from JR Nagahama Station takes around 20 minutes and costs ¥3,500 each way. Anegawa is more practical by car or as part of a northern Shiga itinerary than as a spur-of-the-moment trip from Kyoto.
Opening hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last admission at 9 p.m. The facility closes for the year-end period from December 31 through January 2.
