Day-Use Onsen in Shiga: Eight Baths Compared
Compare eight day-use hot springs in Shiga by current admission, hours and transport, including the mountain-side Koka option.
For rail access, Moriyama and Kusatsu are the easiest places to start. Yurara in Konan has the lowest listed adult admission, while Yapponpon no Yu in Koka needs more planning by public transport. The eight facilities below are outside northern Shiga; for Nagahama and Maibara, see the Northern Shiga day-use guide.
Admission and hours below are the regular adult rates listed by each operator, checked September 28, 2026. Temporary maintenance days and special-event prices are not included.
| Bath | Regular adult admission | Listed bathing hours | No-car reality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moriyama Yumoto Suishun | ¥1,050 weekdays; ¥1,150 weekends and holidays | 10 a.m.–midnight; Sundays and holidays from 7 a.m. | Easiest: free shuttles from JR Katata and Moriyama stations, generally hourly. Check the day’s timetable and capacity. |
| Agaryanse, Ogoto | ¥1,650 weekdays; ¥2,050 weekends and holidays | 10 a.m.–midnight; last entry 11 p.m. | Free station shuttle, but the last listed return to Ogoto-Onsen Station leaves at 10:30 p.m. |
| Kusatsu Yumoto Suishun | ¥1,050 weekdays; ¥1,200 weekends and holidays | 9 a.m.–1 a.m.; last entry midnight | Route buses serve the mall from several rail stations. The free shuttle from Seta and Ishiyama requires a Suishun membership card or app pass. |
| Junibow Onsen Yurara | ¥800 | 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; last entry 9:20 p.m. | Free shuttle from JR Kōsei Station runs three times each way on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays; six seats per trip, with no reservations. |
| Eigenji Onsen Happu no Yu | ¥1,300 weekdays; ¥1,700 weekends and holidays | 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m.; last entry 9 p.m. | Free shuttle from JR Ōmi-Hachiman Station, three departures each way. Match your train to the limited schedule; it does not run on closure days. |
| Moriyama Natural Hot Spring Hotaru no Yu | ¥1,050 weekdays; ¥1,150 weekends and holidays | 10 a.m.–midnight; last entry 11:30 p.m. | The official access page gives driving directions but no confirmed station shuttle. Verify a local bus or taxi for the last leg before setting out. |
| Kutsuki Onsen Tenkuu | ¥850 | 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; last entry 8:30 p.m. | Possible by public transport, but requires a bus from JR Adogawa Station and a call-ahead facility shuttle from the Kutsuki roadside station. |
| Koka Onsen Yapponpon no Yu | ¥1,300 weekdays; ¥1,600 weekends and holidays | Noon–10 p.m.; last entry 9 p.m. | Rural location; the facility asks visitors using municipal buses to contact the hotel. Free parking for 400 cars. |
The easiest baths to reach without a car
Moriyama Yumoto Suishun is the simplest choice if you want a clear rail connection. Its free shuttle links the facility with JR Katata and JR Moriyama, and ordinary buses also serve Pieri Moriyama. Check the timetable before leaving: some shuttle runs are limited to special-operation days, seats can fill, and road delays can affect the return.
The lakeside setting and natural-spring bath make it more than a quick station-side soak. Towels are not included in the standard ticket.
Kusatsu Yumoto Suishun is another workable no-car option, with route buses to Aeon Mall Kusatsu from JR Seta, Minami-Kusatsu and Kusatsu stations, plus Keihan Biwako-Hamaotsu. The free shuttle from Seta and Ishiyama is convenient only if you meet the facility’s membership requirement; new visitors can ride if they join after entering. This is a large sauna-and-bath complex with late hours, not a Lake Biwa viewpoint.
At Agaryanse, a free shuttle runs between the spa and JR Ogoto-Onsen Station. The bath stays open until midnight, but the listed final return leaves at 10:30 p.m. If you want to use the last two hours, arrange another way back rather than assuming the shuttle follows closing time. Agaryanse charges more than the other public bathing facilities here, but admission includes indoor clothing and towels; the adult bedrock-bath area has a separate ¥300 outfit fee.
Lower admission, more timetable work
Junibow Onsen Yurara has the lowest adult bath-only admission here at ¥800. Its free shuttle from Kōsei Station runs three times each way on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Each trip has six seats and cannot be reserved, so a full shuttle may mean waiting for the next one. The operator lists a taxi from Kōsei Station as an alternative.
The bathing area alternates daily between Shugen-no-yu and Hyakuden-no-yu, so check which layout is open on your visit.
Happu no Yu includes a towel set, indoor clothes, re-entry and bedrock bathing in its listed admission. The weekday adult ticket is ¥1,300.
Its free shuttle from Ōmi-Hachiman Station runs only three times each way, and the station is too far for a useful walk. Match the outbound and return trips before setting off. The operator has announced a full maintenance closure on December 2–3, 2026; normal service is due to resume December 4.
Hotaru no Yu is a natural-spring facility in Moriyama and stays open until midnight. Adult admission is ¥1,050 on weekdays and ¥1,150 on weekends and holidays; towel rental costs extra. The operator lists driving directions but no station shuttle. Visitors without a car should arrange the final leg by bus or taxi before travelling.
Kutsuki Onsen Tenkuu is the most rural option. Take a Kōjaku bus from JR Adogawa Station and get off at Kutsuki School. From there, walk to the Kutsuki Shin-Honjin roadside station and call the facility for its bathing-customer shuttle.
The operator lists shuttle service toward Tenkuu from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and return service from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but gives no individual departure times. Confirm pickup before boarding the bus.
Admission is ¥850 for the current bathing area. A May 2026 notice says the former Ki-no-yu and Ishi-no-yu rooms are suspended, although they still appear on some general facility pages.
Koka Onsen Yapponpon no Yu sits on the grounds of Diamond Shiga in Tsuchiyama. Its baths include a sodium bicarbonate cold mineral spring, an outdoor rock bath facing the Koka mountains, indoor pools and a sauna. Bedrock bathing is an optional extra.
| Yapponpon no Yu option | Price | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Adult admission, weekday | ¥1,300 (about HK$65 / NT$262) | Standard bath entry |
| Adult admission, weekend / holiday | ¥1,600 (about HK$80 / NT$322) | Standard bath entry |
| Bedrock bathing | ¥530 (about HK$26 / NT$107) | Optional add-on |
| Family bath | ¥6,000 per hour (about HK$298 / NT$1,209) | Add admission for each person |
The bathing area is listed as open noon–10 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. Family-bath cost is separate from each guest’s admission.
The access page gives about 15 minutes by car from Koka-Tsuchiyama Interchange and lists 400 free parking spaces. The operator asks visitors to contact the hotel for municipal bus details and does not publish a direct rail shuttle. Its current pages do not make the tattoo rule clear, so confirm directly if that affects your plan. See the separate Shiga private family bath guide for how the room fee works alongside admission, and the Shiga tattoo guide for facilities with published restrictions.
One nearby facility I have not counted as a Koka-source option is Mizuguchi Onsen Tsubaki-no-Yu. Its current bath page describes a monthly rotating “nationwide hot-spring” bath; its mobile information page names Moriyama Natural Hot Spring as the source. That may still suit visitors looking for a bath near Mizuguchi-Jonan Station, but the published pages do not establish a local Koka spring supply. See Tsubaki-no-Yu’s facility details.
Which one should you choose?
- For the easiest rail outing, take the Moriyama Yumoto Suishun shuttle that matches your train.
- Kusatsu Yumoto Suishun is open latest; check the last public bus or member-shuttle departure.
- Yurara has the lowest adult ticket, but its shuttle is limited to six seats per trip. A taxi is the alternative.
- In Koka or Tsuchiyama, Yapponpon no Yu is easiest by car and offers a bookable family bath.
- For a longer sauna-and-lounge visit in Ogoto, compare Agaryanse with Yumotokan’s meal-and-bath option in the Ogoto day-use comparison.
- In Nagahama or Maibara, use the Northern Shiga comparison. For a neighborhood bath in Koka, see Shimizuyu.
Check each operator’s current service notices before travel. Regular hours do not cover maintenance closures, and a bath’s admission price says little about whether you can get back to the station after your soak.
