Otsuyu in Otsu: A Neighbourhood Sento Open Until 1 a.m.
Otsuyu is a neighbourhood sento in central Otsu open until 1 a.m. Check its admission and sauna fees, family-bathing day, transport and current notices.
If your evening in Otsu runs late, Otsuyu keeps a bath in reach after many local facilities have closed. Its current listing gives hours until 1 a.m., with a modest sauna supplement and several ways to pay beyond cash. It is a neighbourhood sento, though—not a resort spa or a confirmed natural hot spring.
The bathhouse, also called Yuyu Land Otsuyu, is on Daimon-dori near Mii-dera. That location works well after dinner or an evening around central Otsu. The main reason to choose it is the late closing time; visitors looking for an outdoor bath, a large rest area or published spring-water data should look elsewhere.
Admission and add-on costs
Otsuyu’s current listing gives these prices. Towel hire and small toiletries are available, but their prices are not listed consistently, so the table does not estimate a fully equipped visit.
| Item | Published price |
|---|---|
| Adult bath admission | ¥490 (about HK$24 / NT$99) |
| School-age child (ages 6–11) | ¥150 (about HK$7 / NT$30) |
| Child under 6 | ¥100 (about HK$5 / NT$20) |
| Sauna supplement | +¥150 (about HK$7 / NT$30) |
| Adult bath and sauna | ¥640 (about HK$32 / NT$130) |
The adult total includes the standard bath ticket plus the sauna fee. Bring your own towel if you want to keep the cost predictable; rental towels are paid, and the current listing does not give a fixed rate.
Currency equivalents use approximate September 30, 2026 rates; your card or exchange-counter rate may differ.
The October 1 ceiling is not Otsuyu’s new price
Shiga’s regulated maximum for general public baths changes on October 1, 2026. These legal caps do not set Otsuyu’s admission price. As of September 30, its listing still shows the rates above; check the latest notice before visiting after the change.
| Age group | Maximum from October 1 (not Otsuyu’s confirmed price) |
|---|---|
| Adult | ¥550 (about HK$27 / NT$111) |
| Ages 6–11 | ¥200 (about HK$10 / NT$40) |
| Under 6 | ¥100 (about HK$5 / NT$20) |
Late hours, with occasional closures
Otsuyu lists daily hours of 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. That later finish makes it easier to leave the bath until after dinner or an evening walk. The city’s directory still shows a midnight closing time, while Otsuyu’s current LINE profile and blog give 1 a.m.; use the operator’s newer notices when planning a late visit.
“Open year-round” does not rule out maintenance or holiday closures. Otsuyu has posted temporary closure dates before, so check its current LINE or blog notice before setting out—especially if the bath is your last stop of the night. A last-admission time is not consistently published; do not arrive just before closing without confirming entry is still available.
Sauna, seasonal baths and the water
The sauna costs extra, and herbal or seasonal baths appear as changing features rather than a permanent schedule. Rainy-day sauna promotions have also been announced for specific evenings. These are event notices, not a standing discount, so the normal ¥150 supplement is the safer amount to budget.
Some older social posts mention very cold plunge sessions or unusually high sauna readings. They are snapshots from particular dates, not dependable specifications for every visit. If a specific sauna event is the reason for going, check the day’s announcement instead of planning around an old post.
Otsuyu is listed as a general public bathhouse. The information available does not establish a natural spring source or provide a bathing-water analysis, so there is no basis for describing it as a confirmed natural onsen. For a verified spring-water visit, use the Shiga day-use onsen guide.
Getting there, parking and payment
The address is 16-55 Daimon-dori, Otsu. Mii-dera Station is the closest rail stop, about a three-minute walk away; Otsu and Otsukyo stations are farther out. Otsuyu lists 11 parking spaces, useful if you are already driving around the city, though the lot may be full at peak times.
Cash is accepted, as are major credit cards, QR payments such as PayPay and Rakuten Pay, electronic money including iD and QUICPay, and transit IC cards. That is handy for a small-ticket bathhouse visit, but towel rental and toiletries remain separate purchases.
A family-bathing day—and tattoo rules
Otsuyu advertises free bath admission for elementary-school-age children and younger on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The offer applies to the child’s bath admission, not automatically to sauna use, towel hire or other purchases. Check the current monthly notice before arranging a family visit around it.
Otsuyu has not stated whether guests with tattoos may enter. Ask the bathhouse before visiting; tattoo rules vary between sento.
For a Sunday-morning bath, Miyakoyu-ZEZE is a better fit. For a broader look at the city’s neighbourhood baths, see the Otsu sento comparison; it separates opening times, sauna options and station access across the local choices.
