Izunagaoka Day-Use Onsen: Hakkeien, Sun Valley or Kobo no Yu?
Compare Hakkeien, Sun Valley and Kobo no Yu by bath style, opening hours and access; they are separate stops, not a walkable onsen circuit.
Checked: September 28, 2026
Izunagaoka’s day-use baths suit different schedules. New Hakkeien opens early and stays open late, Sun Valley is a large hotel bath with more than 15 bathing features, and Kobo no Yu combines bathing with a longer-stay setup. Choose one based on when you arrive and what you actually plan to use.
| Facility | Adult admission | Day-use hours | Distinguishing feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Hakkeien | ¥1,650 weekdays; ¥2,200 weekends/holidays; early session ¥1,100 | 11 a.m.–midnight; last entry 11 p.m. Early session 5–8 a.m. | Rooftop open-air bath with a view across the area |
| Hotel Sun Valley Izunagaoka, main building | ¥1,300 weekdays; ¥1,500 weekends/holidays | 1–10 p.m.; last reception 7 p.m. Wednesday opening shifts to 3 p.m. for cleaning | Yumedono bath has more than 15 bathing features |
| Kobo no Yu Nagaoka | ¥1,900 weekdays; ¥2,200 weekends/holidays before 4 p.m.; evening entry ¥1,400/¥1,500 | Entry 6 a.m.–10 p.m.; stay until 11 p.m. | Rock-bath rooms, medicinal-stone mist sauna and extended use |
Kobo no Yu’s lower evening rate applies to admission from 4–10 p.m.; the stay ends at 11 p.m. At Sun Valley, Wednesday cleaning delays opening, and last reception is earlier than closing.
New Hakkeien: the rooftop view and the earliest entry
New Hakkeien sits on higher ground and has a 15-metre rooftop open-air bath, an indoor bath, a reclining bath, a round bath and a dry sauna.
| Cost and schedule | Details |
|---|---|
| Standard admission | Adults ¥1,650 weekdays / ¥2,200 weekends and holidays; children aged four through elementary school ¥880; younger children free |
| Early session | Adults ¥1,100, 5–8 a.m.; separate from regular day-use bathing |
| Regular hours | 11 a.m.–midnight; last entry 11 p.m. |
| Rentals | Face towel ¥220; bath towel ¥220; yukata ¥330 |
Toiletries are listed among the amenities. The hotel is open year-round, but operational changes can affect an early start. Tattoos are not accepted.
The hotel describes its bath as an alkaline simple spring with a pH of 9.0, supplied through the local hot-spring system. It does not publish an individual source temperature or flow rate on the current day-use page; area-wide Izunagaoka figures should not be substituted for the hotel’s own source data.
Sun Valley: more pools, with an early last-entry cutoff
The main building’s Yumedono bath is the largest of these three, with more than 15 bathing features in a cypress-lined space.
| Cost and schedule | Details |
|---|---|
| Admission | Adults ¥1,300 weekdays; ¥1,500 weekends and holidays |
| Hours | 1–10 p.m.; last reception 7 p.m. |
| Wednesday opening | 3 p.m. after routine cleaning |
| Towels | Face towel ¥300 for sale; bath-towel rental ¥300 |
Busy periods can lead the hotel to stop accepting day visitors. Check its current notice if visiting on a holiday or peak date. Sun Valley also operates a separate property, Fuji-mi; spring figures published for that property should not be carried over to the main building’s Yumedono bath.
Kobo no Yu: allow time for the facilities
Kobo no Yu Nagaoka combines spring bathing with large rock-bath areas, a medicinal-stone mist sauna and rest space. It suits a longer visit better than a quick soak.
| Admission period | Weekdays | Weekends and holidays |
|---|---|---|
| Entry 6 a.m.–4 p.m.; stay until 11 p.m. | ¥1,900 | ¥2,200 |
| Entry 4–10 p.m.; stay until 11 p.m. | ¥1,400 | ¥1,500 |
The operator describes its spring baths as source-flow, but names and marketed mineral features are not substitutes for a current spring analysis. Tattoos are not permitted. If you need the latest bath access or admission conditions, confirm with the operator before travelling.
Each facility is in a different part of the area, so check the bus or taxi leg between your accommodation and the bath. If you are arriving by train, use the operator’s current access page rather than assuming every property is close to Izunagaoka Station.
For another day-use comparison on the Izu coast, see the Atami day-use onsen guide. It covers a different mix of hotel baths and resort spas.
