Shodoshima Day-Use Onsen: Pick the Bath That Fits Your Port

Choose a Shodoshima day-use bath by port: Shimayu serves Tonosho, Sun Olive sits near Olive Park, and Yoshida is closest to Fukuda, with reduced hours.

Shimayu beside Tonosho Port

Shodoshima’s three most useful day-use baths are on different sides of the island. Shimayu is a one-minute walk from Tonosho Port and reopened on September 20, 2026. Sun Olive sits by Olive Park and has several bath types, but it is currently on a reduced evening schedule. Yoshida Onsen is the low-cost option near Fukuda Port, although an operator notice gives shorter hours than the tourism listing. Choose by the port or sight you are already visiting, then check the return ferry or bus.

Shimayu¥1,650, including the ¥150 bathing tax6–9 a.m. and 3–11 p.m.; no regular weekly closureTonosho Port and the island’s western side
Sun Olive Onsen¥1,000; towel set ¥2003–8 p.m.; last entry 7:30 p.m.Olive Park and the island’s central-southern area
Yoshida Onsen Fureai no Yu¥600Operator notice says 4–7 p.m.; last entry 6:30 p.m.Fukuda Port, camping or the northeast

Shimayu is easiest when your ferry uses Tonosho

Shimayu reopened inside the Shimahaku complex beside Tonosho Port. The schedule, admission and included amenities are easier to check at a glance:

DetailShimayu
Hours6–9 a.m. and 3–11 p.m.; no regular weekly closure
Admission¥1,650 adults (includes ¥150 bathing tax); ¥750 elementary-school children; ¥500 younger children
ProvidedTowels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash

The bathing offer is compact: the Shio-no-Yu chloride spring, a heated bath, a Finnish-style löyly sauna, a cold plunge around 14°C and an outdoor cooling area. Children who are still in diapers should not bathe. The operator asks tattooed guests to consult the front desk rather than publishing a blanket admission rule. Maintenance can also cause temporary closures, so confirm if your ferry connection leaves little slack.

The operator’s 2024 profile identifies Shio-no-Yu as a sodium-magnesium chloride strong-salt cold spring. Its source measurements describe the spring, not the bath pool:

Spring measurementPublished figure
Source temperature19.5°C
Flow rate40 litres per minute
pH6.9

Shimayu has one pool using its spring water and a separate heated bath. Its current profile does not explain how either pool is treated.

This is the straightforward choice for a short stop before check-in or after checking out in Tonosho. It is less compelling if the day is centred on Olive Park or the eastern coast; crossing the island just to save a few hundred yen elsewhere can cost more time than the bath itself.

Sun Olive is the multi-bath stop, with reduced hours still in effect

Sun Olive has eight bath types, including an outdoor bath, walking bath, herbal bath, reclining bath, steam sauna and dry sauna. It overlooks Uchinomi Bay and makes the most sense after Olive Park or a central-island drive. Admission is ¥1,000 for adults, ¥700 for children and free for children under three. A towel set costs ¥200.

The operator’s current notice says that fuel-supply restrictions forced reduced hours from July 17, 2026, for an unspecified period: bathing runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., with last entry at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday is the full-site closure; the hot spring is also normally closed on Thursdays, with holiday exceptions. Do not use the facility’s general 9 a.m.–9 p.m. building hours as the onsen schedule. Check the notice again before visiting in case the restriction changes.

Yoshida is cheapest, but call about the shortened schedule

Yoshida Onsen Fureai no Yu is part of Auto Village Yoshida, a campground near Fukuda Port. Its current listings disagree on the schedule:

SourceHoursAdmission
Kagawa Tourism3–8 p.m.¥600 adults
Operator notice dated May 3, 20264–7 p.m. from May 8; last entry 6:30 p.m.¥600 adults; ¥300 age three and over

The operator cited fuel-supply limits. No later notice confirms a return to regular hours; call before driving over. The bath closes Tuesdays. Shampoo and body wash are supplied, but towels are not rented. Fukuda Port is about five minutes away by car; check the local bus return service before planning a visit near closing.

The useful comparison is geography, not a popularity ranking

For Tonosho, take Shimayu: the port is right outside and towels are included. For Olive Park, Sun Olive adds more bathing choices, but only if its shorter hours fit. Near Fukuda or at the campground, Yoshida keeps the ticket price lowest, though its early closing leaves the least room for an improvised visit.

If your Setouchi route also includes Naoshima, I Love Yu near Miyanoura Port is another bath that can slot beside a ferry terminal, though it is an art-led sento rather than a natural hot spring.
