Chofu Tsurunoyu: Barrel Sauna, Morning Baths and a Midday Cleaning Break
Chofu Tsurunoyu charges ¥600 and opens at 6 a.m., then closes for cleaning 10 a.m.–noon. It has a men’s barrel sauna, herbal mist sauna and 18°C plunge.
Chofu Tsurunoyu is a neighbourhood sento that now has a reason to draw sauna fans from further away: a men’s barrel sauna with self-pour löyly, plus a very hot herbal mist sauna. The main planning catch is the split opening. It welcomes early bathers from 6 a.m., but closes from 10 to noon for cleaning before the day continues until 1 a.m.
The bath and sauna sides rotate
Tsurunoyu reopened on April 4, 2026, after a handover and renovation. Its barrel sauna is on the men’s side, with an 85°C room and self-löyly. The two bathing sides switch on Wednesdays, when women can use the barrel sauna. Check the month’s schedule if that is the reason for your visit; the normal arrangement is not the same every day.
The other sauna is a hot herbal mist room. For cooling down, the facility lists an 18°C well-water bath with a flow-through supply. The regular baths include jet, electric and ultrasonic pools, plus a gentler radon bath. That gives non-sauna visitors a useful mix too, and the cooler pool is not a natural hot spring: it is well water.

The bathhouse explicitly welcomes guests with tattoos. If you are coming for the barrel sauna, remember that a sauna booking can be useful at peak times; an ordinary bath visit can be more flexible. Drinks are sold in the lobby, including craft beer and house-blended herbal tea. The herbal tea is also available in the bathing area. Save the beer for after the hot bath or sauna.
Useful before an Ajinomoto Stadium event
Nishi-Chofu Station is about seven minutes away on foot; Ajinomoto Stadium is about 20 minutes away. Tsurunoyu has three on-site parking spaces, with metered spaces on the road nearby when available. It is a practical post-match or pre-event stop if you have time to change and walk back, but it is not directly at the stadium gates.
The bathhouse is open 6 a.m.–1 a.m., closed Tuesdays, and pauses 10 a.m.–noon for cleaning. On Wednesday, the bathing sides switch. For a contrasting natural hot-spring visit nearby, Yumorinosato in Jindaiji has a very different pace and a free shuttle from Chofu Station.
