Morino Irodori in Machida: Forest-Side Spring Baths and a Powerful Auto-Löyly Sauna
Visit Morino Irodori for four outdoor spring baths, two saunas and a rest area; weekday admission is ¥880 and the facility closes at midnight.
Morino Irodori is a day-use hot-spring facility in Machida, on the western edge of Tokyo. The outdoor baths and woodland-facing sauna-rest area give it a different feel from an urban sento, while the low admission price keeps it within reach for a half-day visit.
Its strongest draw depends on what you want from the visit. The open-air side is for the spring water and quieter intervals between baths. The sauna side has an auto-Löyly cycle that sends hot steam through the room, plus a mugwort mud-salt sauna. Neither setup calls for staying longer than feels comfortable.
The open-air baths are the spring-water focus
The current bath page describes four outdoor spring baths. The rock-surrounded hot bath is explicitly labelled as source-fed; the other outdoor options include a milder bath and a relaxing area with a shallow reclining bath. The spring is a sodium-bicarbonate and chloride type, described by the facility as low-concentration and weakly alkaline.
The operator’s 2020 opening release gives more detail about the individual pools: the hot and lukewarm baths were listed as spring-fed and heated, while the relaxation and reclining baths were listed as spring water with added water and heating. The current page does not republish that full pool-by-pool specification, so treat the distinction as the opening specification rather than a newly confirmed operating sheet.
Indoors, there is a carbonated bath and several other bathing options. The ordinary ticket also allows repeat bathing until you leave. The facility has a lounge/rest area included with admission, not a separate paid bedrock-bath zone.
The auto-Löyly is not a test of endurance
The main sauna automatically pours water over heated stones, raising the steam and perceived heat in the room. There is also a mugwort mud-salt sauna; the facility periodically runs other herb or tea-steam events, but those programs vary.
If you are new to the main sauna, choose a lower seat or step out before the hot-air cycle becomes uncomfortable. Dizziness, nausea or a racing heartbeat are reasons to leave, cool down and drink water, not signals to sit through another round. The outdoor recovery area and overhead shower make it easy to cool off without turning a sauna session into a challenge.

Reaching the facility
Morino Irodori is at 1-11-5 Oyamagake, Machida. The nearest stations are Tama-Sakai and Hashimoto, but it is not right beside either one. A local bus from Hashimoto Station can shorten the walk; the official access page has the current stop and route information. Drivers can use the facility’s parking, though spaces may be tighter at busy times.
The venue does not admit guests with tattoos, including tattoo stickers. Its bathing rules also limit mixed bathing to children below elementary-school age, and children cannot bathe alone without a same-sex guardian. Check the facility’s detailed rules if travelling with children.
For another western-Tokyo spring bath with a Mt Fuji-facing outdoor view, compare Kunitachi Yurakunosato. If tattoo policy determines where you can go, see the Tokyo large-bath tattoo guide.
