Ryusenji no Yu Hachioji: Is Forest Villa Worth the Extra ¥750–¥950?

Compare Ryusenji no Yu Hachioji’s standard bath ticket with Forest Villa, including weekday and weekend prices, sauna access and bedrock rooms.

At Ryusenji no Yu Hachioji Minamino, the decision is mostly about how long you intend to stay. The regular ticket already includes the public baths and sauna. Forest Villa adds bedrock-bathing rooms and a separate lounge, but it does not upgrade the spring water or give you a private bath. If your plan is a soak, a sauna round and a shower, the basic ticket covers the useful part.

The bath ticket already covers the sauna

TicketWeekdayWeekend / holidayConditions
Adult bath¥950¥1,100Sauna included
Morning bath¥850¥980Entry 6–9 a.m.; you may stay in the bath area after 9
Elementary-school child¥300¥300Preschool children enter free
Forest Villa add-on¥750¥950Junior-high students and older; cannot be bought alone

An adult using Forest Villa pays ¥1,700 on a weekday or ¥2,050 on a weekend or holiday. Towels are not included; a rental set costs ¥300. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are supplied.

The extra makes more sense if you want to stay for several hours. Forest Villa has bedrock rooms, reading space, individual rest seats and a work area. The children’s age restriction is important for families: a child can use the main bath with the regular ticket but cannot enter Forest Villa.

The natural spring and the three carbonated baths are different things

The facility draws its own alkaline simple spring from about 1,500 metres underground. The published source temperature is 25.9°C; the bathing-use temperature is listed separately as 41°C. The three high-concentration carbonated baths are artificial carbonated baths, not additional spring sources.

The bathing area has 14 bath types, including the natural spring, bubble and jet baths, electric bath, and a sub-10°C cold plunge. The main Buzzooka sauna has automatic löyly at :00 and :30 each hour. Men also have a separate Medi Sauna; women’s side includes a salt sauna. The spring and sauna are part of the regular admission, so the bedrock add-on is not needed for a standard hot-cold session.

Getting there, and a couple of rules to know first

The facility is open 6 a.m.–3 a.m., with last entry at 2:30 a.m. Forest Villa closes earlier, at 2:30 a.m., with last entry at 2 a.m. It is not an overnight stay: guests must leave when the building closes. JR Katakura Station is about a 15-minute walk; free shuttles also run from Hachioji-minamino, Hachioji, Hashimoto and Kitano stations. A free 450-space car park is available.

Guests with tattoos, including tattoo stickers, are not admitted. Saunas are for junior-high students and older. Elementary-school children and younger must be accompanied by a same-gender guardian in the bathing area; mixed bathing is not allowed for children aged seven or older or 120 cm and taller. Check the official calendar before a special date, as maintenance or peak-period pricing may affect a visit.
