Kunitachi Yurakunosato: A Fuji-View Bath with One Source-Fed Pool
Visit Yurakunosato for its source-fed outdoor pool, ¥1,000 weekday admission and a 15-minute station walk; other pools use different water systems.
Kunitachi Yurakunosato is worth the trip if the outdoor bath is part of the plan. It looks across the Tama River toward Mount Fuji on clear days, and the upper open-air bath is the facility’s source-fed spring pool. It is not right by a station, though: getting there means a 15-minute walk, a local bus or a drive.
Upper and lower baths use different water systems
Both outdoor pools use the natural sodium-chloride spring, but they are not operated the same way. The upper bath is heated spring water, without added water or recirculation. The lower bath is also heated, but it is diluted and circulated through filtration while fresh spring water is added. Chlorine-based disinfectant is used for hygiene in both.
If a source-fed bath is the reason you came, look for the upper pool. The lower pool is still natural spring water, but it does not meet the same flow conditions. The outdoor view and the two bathing systems give the facility more to offer than simply having “an onsen bath.”
One spring detail remains inconsistent across the operator’s pages. The Kunitachi-specific source page gives a temperature of 48.5°C; the company-wide onsen page has listed 37.0°C for the same source. Both pages agree on a well depth of about 1,800 metres and a flow of 724 litres per minute. Until the temperature discrepancy is reconciled in a current analysis certificate, it is better to keep the two values separate than to average them.
Inside, the artificial high-concentration carbonated bath is maintained at around 37°C. That is the bath temperature, not the spring source temperature. The regular admission also includes two sauna types, a conventional high-temperature sauna and a salt sauna, plus a cold bath.
A modest weekday price, with room for a few hours
| Admission | Weekday | Weekend or holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Adult, junior high and older | ¥1,000 | ¥1,200 |
| Child, age 4 through elementary school | ¥500 | ¥600 |
| Child age 3 or younger | Free | Free |
The facility is open 9 a.m.–1 a.m., with last reception at midnight. Adult entry includes the baths, saunas and rest spaces; shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hair dryers are provided. Towels are extra: ¥150 for a face towel and ¥200 for a bath towel. Special-date prices can apply during busy holiday periods, so check the facility’s fee page for your visit date.
This is not an overnight facility. The long opening hours make it possible to stay for an evening, but you still need to arrange your trip home after closing. The 65-chair relaxation area and dining room are useful if you plan to stay longer than a quick soak.
Getting there and checking entry rules
From Yagawa Station on the JR Nambu Line or Manganji Station on the Tama Monorail, the walk is about 15 minutes. Buses from Kunitachi Station South Exit or Yagawa Station North Exit go to Kunitachi Sosha-jo, which stops at the facility entrance; another route stops across from the Frespo Kunitachi Minami complex. Driving is much easier if you are travelling with children or in a group: the site lists 650 free parking spaces.
The facility does not admit guests with tattoos, tattoo stickers or body paint. Children in elementary school and older cannot use the opposite-gender bath; children under elementary age who are 120 cm or taller are also restricted. Children below elementary school age need a guardian, and the operator’s terms include a supervised exception for infants. Check the current rules carefully if you are travelling with a young child.
Choose Kunitachi when a long soak, the outdoor view and the upper source-fed bath justify the extra walk. If you only need a convenient city bath or want the easiest station access, this is not the simplest option.
