Matsunoyu in Nakanobu: Natural Spring Water, a Garden Bath and Two Different Saunas

Matsunoyu uses natural spring water in its baths and taps. The garden and hinoki sides have different outdoor baths and saunas; bath plus sauna is ¥1,000.

Matsunoyu is an old neighbourhood bathhouse with a practical bonus: the operator says natural hot-spring water runs through every bath, shower and washing tap. It is also only a two-minute walk from Nakanobu Station. The Japanese garden and traditional building give it a quieter, older feel than a design-led sento, while the bathing sides have distinctly different equipment.

Check the bathing side before choosing it for the sauna

The men’s side is the garden side. It has a Japanese garden, an outdoor carbonated bath and a Rocky-style sauna with automatic water-pouring cycles roughly every five minutes. The women’s side is the hinoki side, with a hinoki outdoor carbonated bath and a far-infrared sauna. The two sides are not mirror images, so the sauna and outdoor-bath details differ by side.

The garden is part of the bathhouse rather than a large resort landscape. It adds a view and a place to pause, but this remains a local sento. The operator identifies the hot water used throughout the facility as natural spring water. Source-water temperature, pH and flow rate are not included in its current facility information.

Current cost and opening times

Adult admission is ¥600 under Tokyo’s tariff effective August 1, 2026.

Sauna admission is an additional ¥400, making the adult bath-and-sauna total ¥1,000.

Shampoo and body wash are provided.

Matsunoyu opens at 3 p.m. on weekdays, Saturdays and public holidays, and at 10 a.m. on Sundays. It closes at midnight. Monday is the regular closing day; if Monday is a public holiday, the bathhouse opens from 3 p.m. and closes on Tuesday instead.

Nakanobu Station on the Tokyu Oimachi Line is about two minutes away. Togoshi-koen is around seven minutes on foot and Ebara-nakanobu about eight. There are three free parking spaces, but that is a small lot, not a reason to assume a space will be available. Tattoo rules are not clearly published; ask the bathhouse directly if that affects your plans.

Matsunoyu suits travellers who want an urban natural-spring soak and do not mind choosing between two different bathing layouts. For a natural-spring bathhouse without a sauna, Nakano Onsen Tenjinyu takes a more history-focused approach.
