Yufuin Onsen Ryokan Mebaeso: Main House or Detached Room?

A main-house room gives you the inn’s gender-separated public baths and two outdoor baths that can be used privately when free. The detached categories add a hot-spring tub to the room, so you are not waiting for a shared bath to clear.
What changes between the room categories?
The current booking system lists a Japanese-style room in the main building and detached Japanese-Western rooms with either a Shigaraki-style ceramic bath or a rock open-air bath. The detached baths are described as source-fed. A booking-site label such as “private bathroom” is not enough to establish that a tub uses hot-spring water; choose a room whose description names the bath you want.
The two outdoor private-use baths can help if your main concern is not bathing alongside other guests. They are not an advance-booked appointment, though, so availability may be less predictable around the evening peak. Bring towels from your room; the private outdoor baths do not have the same full changing-room setup as the public baths.
Keep the comparison practical
Choose the main house if you are content to use a public bath and treat the two private-use baths as a bonus. A detached room makes more sense if you expect to soak several times, want privacy without waiting, or prefer to bathe after the shared facilities become busy. The rock-bath cottage also gives you a more self-contained stay; the ceramic-bath room is the simpler match if a private bath and western-style beds matter more than the standalone cottage feel.
Mebaeso sells dinner-inclusive plans as well as breakfast-only and room-only options through its current booking system. Dinner is served on a schedule, so check the selected plan’s arrival requirements before booking around a late train. The inn is outside the immediate station-front area; confirm pickup availability with the property for your travel date.
