Walk from Yufuin Station to an Onsen: Three Options by Time and Bath Type
Three onsen options within walking reach of Yufuin Station, compared by distance, bath type and time needed—useful if you are between trains or buses.
Checked: September 27, 2026 Three baths sit within walking reach of Yufuin Station, but they solve different problems. Otomaru is a simple local bath that works early or late. Sansuikan is near enough for a return-day soak, provided the 1–4 p.m. window fits. Yufudake Onsen takes more walking and closes earlier, but it offers outdoor and private-bath options.

Distances are walking estimates, not a promise of a flat or luggage-friendly route. The station’s platform footbath is closed during JR Kyushu’s current repair project, so it cannot serve as a last-minute fallback before boarding.
Otomaru: a local bath for the edge of the day
Otomaru is roughly five minutes on foot from the station. Admission is ¥300, opening hours are 6:30 a.m.–10 p.m., and it closes on the third Thursday of each month. It is a shared indoor bath, with no outdoor pool or private-use room. That makes it a practical quick soak before the town wakes up or after the other day-use windows have closed.
Bring cash for the entrance contribution and your own towel. A local public bath is not automatically the right choice for someone who needs a private bath or has a tattoo; check directly if either condition would change your plan.
Sansuikan: an afternoon bath close to the station
Sansuikan is about a six-to-eight-minute walk from the station. Day-use admission is 1 p.m.–4 p.m.; adults pay ¥1,000 and children ¥500, with a small towel included. The standard ticket uses the public baths and does not include a private bath. The men’s and women’s bath setups differ, so travelling companions should not assume they will find identical facilities.
The window is short enough that lunch can make or break the timing. On holiday dates, the hotel may announce reduced hours; check its notice before leaving your ryokan or station-area café.
Yufudake Onsen: allow time for the longer walk
Yufudake Onsen is about 17–20 minutes on foot from the station and has indoor and outdoor public baths, as well as private family-bath rooms.
Adult admission is ¥600 and child admission ¥300 in the January 2026 rate listing; confirm the price before setting out. The family-bath rate is not posted, so ask the facility before relying on it as a fixed-cost option.
Its hours change by season: 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. from April through October, then 11 a.m.–5 p.m. from November through March. The closing day is irregular, and weather can affect the opening window. Since the bath closes well before evening, it is not the one to leave until after a late lunch or a long visit to Lake Kinrinko.
Pick by the train you need to catch
Before choosing, subtract time to walk back, change and reach the platform from the bath’s last admission. With luggage, store your bags near the station before attempting the longer walk to Yufudake Onsen. JR Kyushu says the temporary station building opened March 26, 2026, and the platform footbath has been closed since March 14 during construction.
