Hotel Aile in Beppu: Rooftop Onsen, Bay Views and Room Choices
Find out what Hotel Aile’s rooftop and 10th-floor baths offer, which rooms face the bay, and what to know about breakfast, children and access.
Hotel Aile is a handy Kitahama base for travellers who want a city hotel with a proper natural hot spring. The baths are on the 10th and 11th floors, not in the guest rooms. Every room has a private bathroom, but the hotel does not describe those tubs as hot-spring baths.
A booking search for November 18, 2026, found a room for two at about ¥17,300 for one night. Treat that as a dated availability snapshot, not a standard rate: it does not identify a particular view, breakfast plan or cancellation policy.
That distinction is easy to miss when comparing room photos. If you are happy to use gender-separated public baths, you can book a city-view room and still get the same onsen access as a guest in a bay-view twin.
The 10th-floor bath or the rooftop?
The 10th floor has separate indoor baths for men and women, with views over Beppu Bay. The hotel says the water comes from its own spring about 200 metres underground. Above, the 11th-floor open-air bath looks towards the bay, Mount Takasaki and the city lights. Both are listed as 100% continuously flowing natural hot spring water, open from 3 pm until 10 am the next morning.
The indoor bath is the easier choice on a cold or windy evening. Head up to the rooftop when the weather is pleasant and the view is part of the reason you booked. Outdoor access can be affected by weather or maintenance, so check with the hotel if the rooftop is essential to your stay.
A city view may be all you need
The standard room lineup includes a 21.2 m² single for one guest, a 21.2 m² double, a 25.3 m² twin facing south towards Beppu Bay, a 27.7 m² triple with a bay-side view, and a 57.1 m² Force room for four. All have a bath and toilet. The twin and triple are the clearest choices if you want the bay from your room; a double looks towards the city and road.
Think about where you will actually enjoy the view. If it is mainly from the bath, the public floors already provide it. The twin upgrade buys you a bay outlook when you wake up or sit in your room, not extra hot-spring access. That can be worthwhile for a slow morning, but it is not an onsen upgrade.

Breakfast, tattoos and family stays
The hotel’s restaurant serves a café-style muffin breakfast from 7 to 10 am, with vegetables and thick-cut bacon. It is a separate add-on rather than a traditional ryokan dinner-and-breakfast plan. The current listing gives these guide prices:

Prices and availability depend on the booking plan, so check the total for your dates. The north Kitahama area has plenty of places to eat; breakfast elsewhere may be easier if you prefer Japanese food or need an earlier start.
Hotel Aile does not state a tattoo rule for its public baths; ask the hotel before booking if this affects your stay. Guest-room tubs are ordinary bathrooms, while the hot spring is in the 10th- and 11th-floor baths.
The Force room gives a family more space, but the natural hot spring remains a public, gender-separated facility. Published child rules are not consistent across booking sites, particularly for infants and bed-sharing. Confirm the child’s age, bedding and occupancy directly with the hotel before paying for a non-refundable stay.
Getting around Kitahama
Hotel Aile is about a seven-minute walk from JR Beppu Station and roughly a minute from the Kitahama bus stop. The hotel lists 41 free parking spaces, first come, first served. Its location makes airport-bus arrivals and onward trips around Beppu straightforward; drivers should still have a backup in mind during busy dates.
The water is listed as a sodium bicarbonate weak saline spring. The hotel names 100% source-fed continuous flow, but that does not tell you a fixed tub temperature for every visit. Do not use a guest’s one-time temperature report as a daily guarantee.
