Beppu Station Onsen Hotels: Nono, AMANEK or Nishitetsu?

Hotels described as “near Beppu Station” do not all save the same leg of the journey. Two are close to the JR gates; one is better placed for airport and highway buses. The bathing setup matters just as much when you compare the room rates.

Onyado Nono: the easiest JR arrival, plus seven private baths

The station walk is almost immediate, but the more unusual feature is its seven private baths. Guests can use them without reserving a room with a private tub; access is first come, first served. The hotel also has separate public baths on the 13th floor, with indoor and outdoor sections.

The names of those private baths refer to Beppu’s hot-spring districts. They do not mean each bath uses water from a separate district. Ordinary guest-room tubs are not presented as private natural hot springs.

Onyado Nono’s tattoo guidance is more specific than that of the other two hotels: tattoos are generally not permitted in the public bath, but small tattoos fully covered by an 8 × 10 cm cover sticker may be allowed under the stated conditions. The published rule does not spell out a blanket exception for the private baths, so check if you cannot cover yours.

AMANEK: a short walk for a high-floor soak

AMANEK is about three minutes from the station. Its 14th-floor public bath is the main reason to choose it over a basic station hotel. The indoor bath is circulated; the outdoor bath is described as continuously flowing from the source. A Japanese Spa Suite adds a private semi-open-air source-flowing bath in the room.

Nishitetsu Resort Inn: follow the bus map, not the JR map

Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu is about a ten-minute walk from JR Beppu Station, but the Kitahama stop used by airport and highway buses is right by the hotel. Its second-floor public bath has indoor and outdoor pools supplied with natural Beppu spring water. The bath is diluted and circulated/filtered, not source-flowing.
