Dake-no-Yu in Dake Onsen: Hours, Prices and the 2026 Bath Subsidy

Dake-no-Yu costs ¥400, opens 10 a.m.–7:30 p.m. and closes Tuesdays; check the remaining 2026 city subsidy before visiting.

Dake-no-Yu is the straightforward, low-cost choice in Dake Onsen. The bathhouse is modest and has no outdoor bath or sauna; people come for the water, not a long list of facilities. If you want to compare scenery, a sauna or a place to spend half a day, another bath in the hot-spring town may suit you better.

The city said on September 24, 2026 that only a small amount remained. Ask for “Ii yu da ne, Nihonmatsu” at reception. It cannot be combined with other discounts, passes or prepaid tickets; confirm that funds remain before making a special trip.

What the bath is like

Expect one simple indoor bathing setup rather than a spa. The association lists Dake-no-Yu as a free-flowing spring bath. It does not list an outdoor bath or sauna, and its current day-use entry does not provide a full amenity inventory, so bring your own towel and toiletries if you want to be sure you have them.

The supply to Dake-no-Yu comes from a blend of five springs in the Adatara range. Published readings describe the shared source water:

MeasurementReported valueWhere / context
pH2.4Collection tank analysis
pH2.50Laboratory test
TemperatureAbout 51°CAn older inn interview describing water near its tap

These are not current measurements of the bath tub. The older interview also says bathers could add water if it felt too hot; that is not a guarantee of current tub temperature.

Dake Onsen’s spring travels about eight kilometres downhill to the town, taking roughly 40 minutes through a traditional wooden channel. On certain “Milky Days,” the hot-spring keepers flush mineral deposits from the channel and the water in town turns cloudy white. The tourism association says this is usually around once a week in summer and once every two weeks in winter, but weather and other natural conditions affect the timing. Check the association’s latest social posts if you are planning around the colour change; it is not a daily feature of the bath.

Getting there from Nihonmatsu Station

Fukushima Kotsu buses run from Nihonmatsu Station Entrance to the Dake Onsen stop. The current listed fare is ¥500 each way and the ride takes about 25–28 minutes. Services are spaced through the day rather than running like an urban line, so look up both directions before you go. A bath that closes at 7:30 pm is no use if you miss your ride back.

Dake-no-Yu is at 1-270 Dake Onsen, Nihonmatsu. The association lists the bath’s phone number as +81 243-24-2139. Call that number to confirm the day’s operation or ask about towels, toiletries and tattoo rules; the public listing does not spell out all of those details.

This modest bath suits visitors who want to try Dake Onsen’s acidic water at a low price, especially if they are already in the town. It is a poor fit if you need an outdoor pool, sauna, many bathing options, or a published tattoo exception. The subsidy is temporary and allocation-limited, so budget the regular ¥400 unless the city confirms funds remain.
