Ondo Onsen in Hiroshima: A Late-Night Natural Spring in the City Centre

Ondo Onsen has a natural sodium-chloride spring and 1 a.m. closing near Hatchobori; its latest official price listing dates to 2022.

Hiroshima’s official tourism guide places Ondo Onsen in the central nightlife district and lists bathing from 1pm to 1am, except Sundays. That late window is its practical advantage: you can eat nearby and still have time for a soak without heading to a large suburban spa.

The same listing says the spring was drilled from about 850 metres underground and is a sodium-chloride spring. It also names a sauna, jet bath, bubble bath and herbal bath. Those details support calling Ondo a natural hot-spring bathhouse, but they do not establish that every tub uses untreated source water or that the facility is a large-scale spa.

Getting there from Hiroshima Station

From the station’s south exit, Hiroshima’s official tourism guide recommends taking tram line 1, 2 or 6 to Hacchobori, then walking about eight minutes. The bath is at 6-3 Tanaka-cho, Naka Ward. If you are staying around Hatchobori, Nagarekawa or Yagenbori, the final walk may be simpler than using the tram.

The late closing time does not guarantee late-night transit back to your hotel. Check the last tram or bus before you go, especially if you are sleeping near Hiroshima Station. The bath’s listed closing time is 1am; it is not a promise that the wider transit network will still be running then.

Who should choose Ondo?

It suits travellers who want a traditional, centrally located bath and do not need an outdoor view or a long spa stay. The official listing documents the spring, several bath features and the sauna, but it does not describe lounge facilities or a private-bath option. If your priority is a broad choice of baths, outdoor bathing or more room to spend several hours, compare the larger Ujina and Rakurakuen Honoyu branches.

For other neighbourhood options and their different closing times, see the Hiroshima City sento guide. Ondo is the downtown late-night entry in that wider list, not a substitute for every bath in the city.
