Day-Use Onsen in Hita: Mikuma, Kizantei or Yumeyama-sui?
Compare Hita’s day baths by opening time: Mikuma at midday, Kizantei later on eligible days, or riverside Yumeyama-sui with 16 private rooms.
Hita’s day-use baths do not share one convenient opening window. Mikuma usually accepts non-guests from 12:30 to 3 p.m.; Kizantei’s public-bath slot is 3 to 5:30 p.m., except Saturdays and some holiday periods. For a private bath with a choice of styles, you need to leave the station area for Yumeyama-sui in Kotohira. Pick by the hour you have and the kind of bath you want, then plan the ride.
| Your priority | Best fit | Adult price | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| A midday bath by the Mikuma River | Mikuma Hotel | ¥700 | Maintenance or cleaning can cancel day use; call the day you visit. |
| A later public bath with a city view | Kizantei Hotel | ¥800 | No day use on Saturdays; holiday-period availability needs confirmation. Tattoos are not accepted. |
| A private room or a streamside outdoor bath | Yumeyama-sui | ¥2,000–¥3,000 per private room; ¥800 for the public bath | In Kotohira, about ten minutes by car from Hita Station; check the bus route and final walk. |
Around noon: Mikuma has the shortest useful window
Mikuma’s current day-use notice sets the usual hours at 12:30–3 p.m.
Admission is ¥700 for adults and ¥400 for children aged two through elementary school.
The hotel says maintenance and cleaning can suspend the service, so phone before setting out rather than treating those hours as a daily guarantee.
The draw is its high-floor bathing area: the hotel places its large public bath and cypress open-air baths on the 10th and 11th floors, about 50 metres above ground, with views over the river and town. This is the straightforward choice after a morning in central Hita if you can arrive around opening time. A late lunch can eat into the short slot quickly.
Mikuma also has one private family bath, Tenryo-no-yu, with an indoor and an outdoor tub. Its price is a room fee plus ordinary admission:
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tenryo-no-yu, 50 minutes | ¥2,200 per room |
| Adult admission | ¥700 per person |
| Two adults, total before other costs | ¥3,600 |
Because the hotel’s day-use notice asks visitors to call and the private bath is a single room, confirm that both are available on your date. The public pages do not set out a clear tattoo rule; ask the hotel directly if it affects your choice.
The hotel’s access page identifies a bus stop in the Hita Onsen district right by the property and says station pickup is available. It does not clarify whether pickup is offered to day visitors, so ask when you call. Drivers can use the hotel’s 60 free parking spaces.
After 3 p.m.: Kizantei works only on the right date
Kizantei’s public day-use bath costs ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children and runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oita Prefecture lists Saturdays, Obon, Golden Week and the year-end/New Year period as closure or advance-confirmation dates. If your visit falls near a holiday, check with the hotel before building the evening around it.
The public bath is on the eighth floor, with an indoor bath and an open-air pool looking across the Mikuma River and the Hita Basin. The sauna is in only one of the two gender-separated bathing areas, which rotate between men and women overnight; a day visitor should not assume which side will have it. Bring your own towel: the hotel’s FAQ says bath towels are not supplied at the public bath.
Kizantei’s two private baths are for overnight guests, not day visitors; the listed ¥2,000 fee does not make them available for a day visit. The hotel bars entry to its public baths for people with tattoos, tattoo stickers or body paint. JR Hita Station is about a 12-minute walk away, and the bus terminal is roughly ten minutes on foot. Ask about parking: the prefectural listing directs day visitors to municipal parking, not the hotel’s overnight spaces.
Go to Kotohira for the river, not for a station-side soak
Yumeyama-sui sits beside the Takase River in Kotohira, around ten minutes by car from JR Hita Station or Hita Bus Terminal. It is the option to choose when a private room, several outdoor pools or a wooded stream setting matters more than staying in the central district.
The public open-air bath has four stone pools. The operator describes these pools as free-flowing spring water; that handling note does not cover every private tub.
| Day | Adult admission | Bath hours | Last reception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekday | ¥800; ¥1,000 during Golden Week, Obon and year-end/New Year | Noon–8:45 p.m. | 8:15 p.m. |
| Weekend or public holiday | ¥800; ¥1,000 during Golden Week, Obon and year-end/New Year | 11 a.m.–9 p.m. | 8:30 p.m. |
Its 16 private family baths come in seven styles. The price is per room, not per person:
| Day | Room rate for 60 minutes | Last reception |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday | ¥2,500; Kawasemi room ¥2,000 | 8:50 p.m. |
| Weekend or public holiday | ¥3,000 | 8:50 p.m. |

Hita’s B-course loop bus serves Kotohira, with stops at Seiwa-cho and Kotohira-tei Kominkan-mae. The facility does not give a walking time from either stop. From October 1, 2026, the timetable lists separate left- and right-loop services at ¥100 per section. Only a few departures serve this side of town, so check both directions for your date. The car-free Hita day-trip route covers the connection. Yumeyama-sui has 60 free, unreserved parking spaces.
A practical sequence from town
If you finish sightseeing before lunch, ask Mikuma whether day use is operating, then aim for its 12:30 opening. If you are not ready until mid-afternoon, Kizantei can work on a weekday outside its listed closure periods; its short window ends at 5:30. Do not plan to use both as a seamless relay: the first closes as the second opens, leaving no useful buffer for changing, walking or a meal.
Choose Yumeyama-sui when the bath itself is the main outing. A private room gives you more control over privacy and timing, while the public option is for the riverside setting. If you are comparing several public-bath admissions around Hita and Amagase, the wider Hita and Amagase day-use guide covers other options. For the separate admission booklet, check the Hita Yumeguri Pass guide; it does not replace a private-bath fee.
