Fukuoka to Hita for Mameda Town and an Onsen: A Day-Trip Plan Without a Car
Take the Hita-go bus from Fukuoka to Mameda, then head to Kotohira Onsen. Local B-course times and the ¥3,580 round-trip ticket change October 1, 2026.
Mameda Town and Kotohira Onsen sit on different sides of a day trip. The highway bus can leave you near Mameda, while the onsen is about ten minutes by car from Hita Bus Terminal. Without a car, the day works best when you protect the return connection first and treat a taxi as the fallback for one leg—not as a surprise after the bath closes.
The route in one line
Fukuoka or Fukuoka Airport → Hita-go to Jonai–Mameda Iriguchi → Mameda Town → Hita Bus Terminal → city B-course bus or taxi to Kotohira Onsen → return to the terminal → Hita-go back to Fukuoka.
Hita-go is a non-reservation highway bus. Seats are limited, and a full bus may not take additional passengers, so do not build a tight connection around a particular departure.
The current adult one-way fare from Fukuoka is ¥1,980.
Nishitetsu lists a ¥3,580 round-trip/pair ticket through September 30, 2026; the operator says it will be discontinued from October 1.
The ticket covers one round trip for one person or two one-way rides in the same direction—not two people travelling out and back.
Spend the morning in Mameda, not on a long station detour
Ask for Jonai–Mameda Iriguchi when boarding from Fukuoka if you want to begin in the old merchant district. Mameda’s lanes, shops and cafes make a natural morning visit; two or three hours gives room for a walk and lunch without consuming the afternoon bath window. The exact time depends on whether you stop at museums or individual shops, whose opening days differ.
After Mameda, head to Hita Bus Terminal for the local connection. The city loop route to Kotohira is B course, shown as the light-blue bus. Yumeyama-sui’s access page lists Seiwa-cho and Kotohira-tei Kominkan-mae as the nearest stops. It does not publish a walking time from either stop, so check the route map and last stretch before you commit to that transfer. If the bus timing does not line up, a taxi from the terminal takes about ten minutes by the facility’s estimate.
October 1 is a real timetable boundary
Through September 30, use the current B-course timetable. From October 1, 2026, Hita City extends some B-course trips toward Saiseikai Hita Hospital and reduces the route from ten daily runs to seven; the longer circuit adds about twenty minutes. New official timetables are already posted. That change can make the bath-to-terminal leg harder to time, especially if you are trying to catch a highway bus back to Fukuoka.
The city loop bus accepts nimoca and other transport IC cards. Tell the driver when transferring between loop routes to receive the transfer discount. A booklet of thirteen ¥100 tickets costs ¥1,000. These local fares are separate from the Hita-go ticket.
For a low-risk day, choose the Fukuoka return bus before planning the bath. Then check the B-course departure that gets you back to the terminal with room to spare. If the schedule leaves only one fragile connection, budget a taxi from Kotohira rather than cutting the soak short or missing the last long-distance bus.
Choose the bath before choosing lunch
Yumeyama-sui’s private family baths are the most straightforward choice for two people or a family who want a room to themselves. They run for 60 minutes. Weekday rooms are ¥2,500, apart from the ¥2,000 Kawasemi room; weekends and public holidays are ¥3,000. Last reception is 8:50 p.m., but the practical limit for a day trip is usually your return transport, not the facility’s closing time.
The separate public open-air bath beside the river costs ¥800 for adults, with a seasonal higher rate during Golden Week, Obon and the year-end/New Year period. It opens at noon on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. See the Hita family-bath comparison for the private-room differences; the Hita Yumeguri Pass is a separate admission product and should not be treated as payment for a private bath.
Lunch at the onsen complex is possible, but its restaurant runs on its own hours and weekly closing day. Check the restaurant’s current schedule instead of assuming it matches the bath. If you would rather eat in Mameda, leave enough time to reach the terminal and Kotohira afterwards.
Costs worth checking before departure
| Item | Current published amount |
|---|---|
| Hita-go, Fukuoka–Hita, adult one way | ¥1,980 |
| Hita-go round-trip/pair ticket through September 30 | ¥3,580 |
| Yumeyama-sui public open-air bath, adult | ¥800; seasonal rate ¥1,000 |
| Yumeyama-sui private bath, weekday | ¥2,000 or ¥2,500 per room for 60 minutes |
| Yumeyama-sui private bath, weekend/holiday | ¥3,000 per room for 60 minutes |
| City loop bus ticket booklet | ¥1,000 for thirteen ¥100 rides |
After October 1, recalculate the long-distance fare with the operator’s current fare page. The ticket change does not affect the ¥1,980 single fare shown on the current listing, but it removes the ¥3,580 deal. Add local transport and meals separately; a two-person private-room price is per room, while the highway-bus fare is per traveller.

Access scores lower because Kotohira adds a transfer from Hita Bus Terminal.
Leave a return buffer
Do not use the bath’s final admission time as your departure target. You still need time to change, reach the bus stop, wait for the B course and make the highway-bus departure. If traveling from October 1 onward, take particular care with the new seven-run timetable. Keep the official schedule open on the day; service notices and actual highway traffic can change a neat itinerary.
If the Mameda stop, a relaxed bath and an exact same-day highway-bus connection are all essential, consider dropping one of them. The route has several moving pieces, and the city does not publish a guaranteed connection between the local loop and the intercity coach.
