Three Day-Use Onsen Near Hita: Gensenya, Senraku and Yumeyama-sui
Compare three day-use onsen outside central Hita by bath style, current price, hours and access—from Gensenya’s herbal bath to Senraku’s late river soak.
Outside central Hita, the three baths suit different plans. Yumeyama-sui has a riverside setting and the widest choice of private rooms. Gensenya combines a natural hot spring with a herbal bath and is a short walk from Yoake Station. Senraku stays open latest, with a semi-open public bath and eight private rooms beside the Kusu River. Check your return transport as well as the admission fee when choosing.
| Bath | Shared-bath admission | The main draw | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kotohira Onsen Yumeyama-sui | Adults ¥800; seasonal peak ¥1,000 | Four stone open-air pools by the Takase River, plus 16 private rooms | About 10 minutes by car from Hita Station; weekday public bathing starts at noon |
| Hita Onsen Gensenya | Adults ¥650 including bathing tax | Natural spring and herbal bath; four private rooms from ¥1,300 | Tuesday closure; the bath-only window ends at 8 p.m. and the last private-room reception is 7 p.m. |
| Ogasé Tennen-yu Senraku Onsen | Adults ¥600 | River-view semi-open bath and eight private rooms; open until midnight | About 10 minutes by car from Hita Station, with no station shuttle listed |
For baths closer to the station and Mikuma River, compare the central Hita day-use onsen guide or its more focused riverside-bath comparison. The three choices here need a little more thought about the last leg home.
Yumeyama-sui: make the river the reason for the trip
Yumeyama-sui sits beside the Takase River. Its shared area has four stone open-air pools, separated by gender. The men’s side has Norari-yu, facing the river, and Aun-no-yu, with two pools at different heights farther downstream. On the women’s side, Maru-yu uses rounded river stones and screening; Utakata-no-yu is a square stone pool with a jet feature. The layouts are not mirror images, so the exact public-bath experience depends on which side you use.
| Shared rotenburo | Adults | Children (ages 4 through elementary school) | Hours and last reception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekdays | ¥800 | ¥400 | Noon–8:45 p.m.; last reception 8:15 p.m. |
| Weekends and public holidays | ¥800 | ¥400 | 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; last reception 8:30 p.m. |
| Golden Week, Obon and year-end/New Year | ¥1,000 | ¥500 | Confirm the day’s schedule |
The operator describes the shared pools as free-flowing spring water. That information applies to the public rotenburo; water handling for individual private rooms is not specified.
The 16 family baths come in seven tub styles, each with a 60-minute session and a window facing greenery. Every room has air conditioning, though not all are described as open-air.
| Private-room rate | Weekdays | Weekends and public holidays |
|---|---|---|
| Kawasemi | ¥2,000 | ¥3,000 |
| Other rooms | ¥2,500 | ¥3,000 |
If an outdoor private tub is essential, request a named room and confirm its setup before setting out. The Yumeyama-sui day-use guide covers room formats and the nearby bus stop.
This is the strongest choice for a shared outdoor soak or a private-room group that wants several tub styles. It is the weakest fit for a quick public bath before lunch: the shared pools do not open until noon on weekdays, although the family baths start at 10 a.m. On weekends and public holidays the private rooms open at 9 a.m.
Gensenya: a station-side option with a real timetable caveat
Gensenya pairs an indoor bicarbonate hot spring with a medicinal-herb bath. It is not a river-view open-air facility. The operator also describes the natural spring in its four private rooms as free-flowing. Private-room prices and the weekday solo rate are:
| Private room | 50-minute rate | Weekday solo rate |
|---|---|---|
| Enamel tub | ¥1,300 per room | ¥1,000 per person, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. |
| Hinoki tub | ¥1,500 per room | ¥1,000 per person, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. |
| Cut-stone tub | ¥1,500 per room | ¥1,000 per person, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. |
| Gensenya | Price or limit | Hours / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard private-room capacity | Up to 3 adults, or 2 adults and up to 3 children | 50-minute session |
| Weekday solo private-room rate | ¥1,000 per person | 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; any room |
| Shared bath | Adults ¥600 + ¥50 bathing tax; ages 4 through elementary school ¥400; ages 0–3 ¥100 | 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; last reception 7:30 p.m. |
| Private rooms | From ¥1,300 | Last reception 7 p.m.; reception may close early when all rooms are occupied |
Bring soap and shampoo for a private session; the shared bath supplies them. Tattoos are not accepted in the shared bath, so the facility recommends booking a private room instead.
Yoake is close; the return timetable still needs planning
Yoake Station is about a five-minute walk from Gensenya and serves both the JR Kyudai Main Line and the Hita-Hikosan BRT Hikoboshi Line. They run on separate timetables. On Sunday, September 20, 2026, the BRT timetable showed departures toward Hita at 3:51, 4:49 and 5:49 p.m.; those times are date-specific, not a daily schedule. Traffic and limited space for pedestrians have been reported on the station approach. Take a taxi if walking beside the road is uncomfortable. The Hita no-car day-trip guide covers this leg.
There is one opening-day discrepancy worth catching. Gensenya’s current visitor information lists Tuesday as its weekly closure and says it opens when Tuesday falls on a holiday. The Hita tourism association page still lists both Tuesday and Wednesday. If Wednesday is your only possible visit, call the facility at +81 973 27 2809 rather than risking a closed door.
Senraku: the late option, but plan a ride back
Senraku’s semi-open public bath looks over the Kusu River. Its later closing makes it useful after dinner or a full day in Hita.
| Public bath | Adults | Children through elementary school | Opening | Last reception | Closes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weekdays | ¥600 | ¥300 | 11 a.m. | 11 p.m. | Midnight |
| Weekends and public holidays | ¥600 | ¥300 | 10 a.m. | 11 p.m. | Midnight |
Senraku has eight private rooms: four rock baths, two cut-stone baths and two hinoki baths. The operator says their spring water is fully free-flowing and replaced after each use. Its natural spring is classified as sodium bicarbonate-chloride water.
| Private-room bath | 50 minutes | Extension |
|---|---|---|
| Rock or cut stone | ¥1,900 | ¥200 per 10 minutes |
| Hinoki | ¥2,100 | ¥200 per 10 minutes |
The access information gives a ten-minute drive from JR Hita Station and lists 15 parking spaces. No facility shuttle is listed. For a car-free visit, arrange a taxi and its return before going in; midnight closing is not a promise of late public transport. The station area has more straightforward alternatives if you do not want to pre-plan a ride. For more private-room choices around Hita, see the Hita family-bath comparison.
Which one fits your day?
Choose Yumeyama-sui when you want the open-air river setting or need to choose among many private tub styles. Choose Gensenya when an indoor hot spring and herbal bath suit you, especially if the Yoake train or BRT timing works. Choose Senraku for a late soak or a private room with the Kusu River in view, provided your return ride is settled.
If you are building a wider Hita day around Kotohira, the Mameda and Kotohira route covers the local-bus handoff; its B-course timetable changes on October 1, 2026, so use the version for your travel date. The Hita–Amagase onsen comparison is a better next step if you have not yet decided which part of the region to visit. If you are considering an admission booklet for several baths, check the participant-list caveat in the Hita Yumeguri Pass guide before counting on it here.
