The dated reopening notice matters more than an old “closed” label
The bath was temporarily shut from 30 March. Izumo City announced its reopening on 24 July, giving the exact start time and the rules that replaced the pre-closure schedule. The city’s notice and Shimane’s official visitor listing now agree on the hours, closure days and prices. Use those current details rather than an older directory entry that still says the facility is closed.
There is one calendar wrinkle: the city made an exception for 29 July, the final Wednesday of that month, and kept the bath open for reopening week. That was a dated exception, not a reason to assume the last Wednesday is generally an open day. Check the facility’s latest notice if your visit falls on one of its normal closing days.
A source temperature of 50.5°C is not the bath temperature
The official visitor listing describes the spring as sodium-calcium sulfate-chloride water, with a source temperature of 50.5°C and a pH of 8.4. Those are source-level figures, not a published measurement of the pool where you will bathe. The same listing says only some baths use free-flowing source water; it does not claim every tub is supplied that way.
The broad outdoor bath sits among trees, a more spacious setting than the small station-area baths. Whether every pool is 100% free-flowing is unverified. The Yunokawa day-use bath guide compares water-treatment details at Hikawa Bijin-no-Yu, Shikisō and Yumoto Yunokawa.
The walk from Shōbara Station is longer than the onsen-area shortcut suggests
JR Shōbara Station is about 25 minutes on foot from the facility. That is manageable in mild weather with light bags, but it is not a quick station-side soak. Add the return walk if you are travelling onward by train, and think about rain, summer heat, darkness after an evening bath and the extra distance for anyone who finds walking difficult.
The venue’s current access listing does not give a local bus connection to the entrance. By car, the drive is about ten minutes from either Hikawa or Shinji interchange, and the site has free parking for 120 cars. The listing also notes an entrance ramp and an elevator. If walking from the station is not suitable, plan a taxi rather than assuming the whole Yunokawa Onsen district’s shorter walking estimate applies to this building.
This makes the bath easier to fit into a drive than a spontaneous rail transfer. For a wider choice by location, see the Izumo city day-use onsen guide. If you want to compare the area’s other main baths, the Shikisō vs. Yumoto Yunokawa guide sets out their different setups. Hikawa’s current listing does not confirm a standard day-use private-bath option.
When it fits—and when to choose another bath
Go when you want a spacious outdoor soak, have a car or are comfortable with a 25-minute walk, and can arrive before the 8:30 p.m. admission cutoff. The ¥700 adult rate is clear, and evening opening gives you more room than the local baths that close earlier.
Choose somewhere else if Tuesday or the month’s final Wednesday is your only available day, you need a bath directly beside a railway station, or full free-flowing water in every pool is essential. For an early-morning sauna session, compare Shikisō’s sauna facilities; the Shikisō vs. Yumoto Yunokawa comparison is useful if those are also on your shortlist.
