Yokohama Spa Hills Ryusenji no Yu: Morning Bath, Natural Spring and Forest Villa

Spa Hills Ryusenji opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 1 a.m. beside Kami-Hoshikawa Station; add Forest Villa only for its bedrock rooms and lounge.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Ryusenji no Yu Yokohama Spa Hills is a large, all-day bathhouse in Asahi Ward, not the separate Ryusenji branch in Hachioji. Its location makes a short visit unusually easy: Kami-Hoshikawa Station is just outside the south exit, and local trains from Yokohama take about ten minutes.

What the current ticket covers

The bath ticket includes the baths and regular sauna, but not towels. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided.

Two types of bathing, one natural spring

The 15-bath-and-sauna lineup includes several kinds of water, so it helps to know which pools actually use the spring. Ryusenji Onsen rises from 2,000 metres underground. It is a sodium-chloride spring, with a source temperature of 43.8°C and a bathing-location temperature of 45°C. The rock bath and waist-deep bath use the natural spring; the carbonated baths are artificially infused and are not natural carbonated spring water.

There are three carbonated baths, several jet and electric baths, a cold spring-water bath and a deep cold bath. The sauna lineup differs by gender: the men’s side has a medi sauna, while the women’s side has a salt sauna; the shared feature is the “Bazooka” sauna, with scheduled ro-lyu sessions at the top and bottom of each hour. The cold bath and deeper pools have depth cautions, so keep children close and follow the signs.

Forest Villa changes the visit from a bath stop into a longer stay. The zone combines heated stone rooms, a cool-air room, library, work area, recliners and semi-private log shelters. Its library has more than 15,000 books and comics, and the work area has Wi-Fi and power. If you’re planning only a quick shower and soak, the extra fee buys facilities you may not have time to use. For a reading afternoon, it gives you somewhere to settle after the bath.

Getting there, and what to know before you go

The simplest no-car route is the Sotetsu Line to Kami-Hoshikawa; the bathhouse is immediately outside the south exit. There are also free shuttle buses from Nakayama and Tsurugamine, though these can be full or delayed by road conditions. Check the current timetable before choosing the shuttle.

The facility is not open to anyone with tattoos, tattoo stickers or similar body art. Children under junior-high-school age cannot use Forest Villa; elementary-age children must use the baths with a same-sex guardian, and mixed bathing is restricted for elementary-age or taller children. Towels cost extra, and guests under 18 may not remain after 11 pm under Kanagawa’s youth-protection rules.

For the wider Yokohama comparison, including the walkable SPA EAS option, see the Yokohama day-use onsen guide. If the distinction between a spring-source pool and artificially carbonated bath matters to you, this onsen water guide explains the terminology.
