Best Day-Use Onsen in Kobe: 6 Places Compared
Compare six Kobe day-use baths by admission, access, opening hours, age limits and which pools actually use natural spring water.
Kobe has day-use baths at very different price points. Minatoyama and Nada Onsen Rokkomichi are the budget choices; Uhara-no-Yu, Tsuki-no-Yufune and awa awa cost more and have different spring-fed pools. Kobe Minato Onsen Ren sits in a separate bracket at ¥2,715 on weekdays and admits day visitors aged 12 and over only. Check which bath uses natural spring water before choosing: at several facilities, that does not mean every pool is source-fed.

Minatoyama Onsen: spring water across all five baths
Minatoyama is the clearest choice if source-water treatment is your priority. The spring emerges at roughly 27–29°C, then the bathhouse heats it with firewood. All five baths use the source water without recirculation, and the tubs are drained and cleaned every night.

| Adult admission | ¥800 |
| Early admission | ¥600, 5–8 a.m. |
| Bath temperatures | 26–46°C |
From JR Kobe, take city bus 7 or 9 to Hirano and walk about five minutes; bus 7 from Sannomiya also serves the stop. The facility has 28 parking spaces. It closes Wednesdays, shifting the closure to the next weekday when Wednesday is a holiday.
Nada Onsen Rokkomichi: the rail-side budget option
Rokkomichi is closer to the rail network: allow two or three minutes on foot from JR Rokkomichi, or three to five from Hanshin Rokkomichi. There are 13 free parking spaces. Hours vary by weekday: Sunday through Thursday it opens 5 a.m.–1 a.m. (last entry 12:15 a.m.); on Friday it continues into Saturday until 1 a.m. Check before going, since closures are irregular.
The distinction here is by pool. Only the cold source bath is unheated, undiluted, unchlorinated and not recirculated. The hot indoor baths and outdoor bath are filtered and recirculated, with a small amount of chlorine for sanitation. It is a very inexpensive way to try the source water, but the ¥500 ticket does not mean every tub has the same treatment.
Uhara-no-Yu: an early start, with the spa as an extra
Uhara-no-Yu works well if you want longer opening hours and can fit a morning soak into the schedule. One named outdoor bath uses water from a sodium-chloride spring drilled to 1,089 metres.
| Option | Price and window |
|---|---|
| Morning bath | ¥850 weekdays / ¥900 weekends and holidays; enter 6–9 a.m. and leave by 10 a.m. |
| Hot-stone spa | ¥800 / ¥900 depending on day; 9 a.m.–10:30 p.m., last admission 10 p.m.; ages 13+ |
JR/Rokko Liner Sumiyoshi is an eight-minute walk; Hanshin/Rokko Liner Uozaki is six. Bath-only parking is free for up to three hours. The car park entrance cannot be reached by turning right.
Tsuki-no-Yufune: spring water and seawater in separate pools
Tsuki-no-Yufune has 150 free parking spaces. By bus, go from JR/Sanyo Tarumi to Miyamadai, or from Myodani Station to Matsukazedai; either stop is about a five-minute walk away. The full ticket costs ¥1,000 on weekdays or ¥1,030 on weekends. A separate ¥500 ticket covers indoor baths only, not the outdoor pools or sauna.
The outdoor area mixes two kinds of water: one named pool uses the Jamesyama No. 1 spring at about 33°C, while other outdoor baths use seawater. Seawater may be mineral-rich, but it is not onsen spring water.
awa awa KOBE: the source is cooler than its outdoor pool
At awa awa, the spring rises from 752 metres below ground at 35.2°C. Its named outdoor bath is heated to 42°C, so the source and bathing temperatures are different.

Kobe Minato Onsen Ren: higher admission and a 12+ age limit
Ren costs more, and starts later by shuttle
Ren’s admission includes tax and bathing tax: ¥2,715 on weekdays or ¥3,155 on weekends and public holidays. The day-use bath opens at 6 a.m., but its free Sannomiya shuttle does not start early enough for that first bathing hour. If the shuttle is how you plan to get there, check its current timetable instead of assuming it matches the bath’s opening time.
The source is listed at 1,150 metres deep, 35°C and 323.5 litres per minute, with sodium-bicarbonate and chloride components. Only some baths use that spring water. The higher entry price also comes with a firm age limit: day visitors must be 12 or older. For a more direct price and facility comparison, see awa awa vs Ren.
Which one makes sense for your stop?
If water treatment settles the choice, Minatoyama is the outlier: all five baths use source water without recirculation. For a ¥500 rail-side soak, Rokkomichi keeps the cost down and gives you a single cold source bath; the higher-priced facilities make sense when their extra bathing or sauna options fit the time you have.
