Chikara no Yu in Fushimi: A Natural-Spring Day Bath Near Takeda Station

Chikara no Yu has a natural-spring outdoor bath and several saunas; entry is ¥850 weekdays or ¥950 weekends, five minutes from Takeda Station.

Chikara no Yu is the Fushimi option to choose when you want a proper hot-spring bath without travelling to an overnight resort. Its natural water comes from Kyoto Joyo Onsen and is brought to the facility by tanker; the spring temperature is listed as 31°C, and the outdoor bath is heated. A basic visit is straightforward: take the Kintetsu Kyoto Line or Kyoto Subway Karasuma Line to Takeda, walk west from exit 2, bathe and head back. Add the women-only hot-stone lounge or a meal only if you have time for them.

What the spring information actually says

The facility’s outdoor hot-spring bath uses Kyoto Joyo Onsen, transported by tanker. Its published classification is sodium bicarbonate–chloride hot spring, with a source temperature of 31°C; the facility says it heats the source to 41°C. The 31°C figure is the water at the source, not the temperature you should expect in the pool. Nor does it mean every bath in the building uses this spring: the natural-spring label is attached to the outdoor bath.

The other water features include an ordinary cold bath listed at 17–18°C and a gentler plunge listed at 26–29°C. The gentler bath may be used as a rotating bath during some events, so do not count on it being available in that form every day. The venue lists 11 bath types overall, with nine on the men’s side.

The hot-stone lounge is a separate, women-only option at ¥600 on top of admission. It has 14 beds and is open 10:45 a.m.–9:30 p.m.; reservations are not required, and guests may stay within that operating window. The bath, natural-spring pool and saunas do not require the lounge ticket.

Sauna choices are split by bathing side

The venue lists a far-infrared sauna and a mist sauna, plus a low-temperature salt sauna on the women’s side. The ordinary cold bath is listed at 17–18°C; the milder 26–29°C option is useful if you prefer a less abrupt cool-down, but its availability can change during event periods.

The tattoo policy is explicit: guests with tattoos, including temporary or fake tattoos, are refused entry. Do not assume a cover sticker or clothing will make an exception. If you are planning a visit with children, the FAQ says infants who still wear diapers may enter, though it also notes that the bathing water is chlorinated for hygiene.

How to fit it into a half-day

Chikara no Yu is about five minutes on foot from Takeda Station’s west exit 2, served by both the Kintetsu Kyoto Line and the Karasuma Subway Line. Drivers can use the listed 160-space car park; Kyoto South Interchange is about five minutes away. The location is practical for south Kyoto, but not a particularly efficient detour from Arashiyama or the northern sightseeing districts.

The bath is open 10 a.m.–11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. The hot-stone lounge finishes at 9:30 p.m. The facility is usually open year-round, but it closes once or twice a year for maintenance, so check for a notice before travelling.

Allow two to three hours for bathing, sauna and changing. If you want to eat at the on-site restaurant, it can stretch into a longer stop. Re-entry to the bath is not automatic after leaving the changing area; guests using the restaurant, massage service or barber shop can ask reception to arrange a return visit before leaving the bathing area. That is not the same as being able to go out sightseeing and come back on the same ticket.

For nearby everyday public baths, see the Fushimi sento guide. Chikara no Yu is a different kind of stop: its transported natural spring and optional hot-stone lounge set it apart from the ward’s standard ¥550 neighborhood sento.
