Ayakawasou in Aya: A Forest-Day Bath, Not a Natural Onsen
Ayakawasou opens at 2 p.m. in rural Aya. See current day-use prices, sauna details and why a car helps when pairing the artificial mineral bath with the forest.
Checked: September 27, 2026
Ayakawasou is a practical end-of-day stop if you are already exploring Aya by car. The public bath looks out toward greenery and has a sauna in each gender-separated area. It is not a natural spring, though: the facility describes it as an artificial mineral bath using Mugimeshi rock.
Rates and hours for day visitors
From April 1, 2026, non-resident prices are:
| Visitor | Admission |
|---|---|
| Adult | ¥800 |
| Junior- or senior-high student | ¥600 |
| Elementary-school child | ¥500 |
Aya residents have a separate lower rate. The bath opens 2–9 p.m., with last admission at 8:30 p.m.; it closes on Wednesdays.
The Aya Suspension Bridge is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Its separate admission is ¥500 for high-school-age visitors and adults, and ¥350 for elementary- and junior-high students. Go to the forest first; Ayakawasou is not a morning bath.
What the bath is—and is not
The operator lists separate public baths for men and women, with a sauna in each. The “Mugimeshi rock” name can sound like a spring description, but the facility explicitly classifies the bath as artificial. There is no natural source temperature or spring analysis to compare here.
The operator lists gender-separated indoor baths and a sauna, but does not list an outdoor pool, cold plunge or bookable family bath. If natural spring water is the point of your trip, Aoi-dake Onsen publishes source details and is a better match. For baths closer to the city, use the Miyazaki City day-use overview.
Aya is easiest by car
The property is at 3765 Kitamata, Aya. It sits in the town’s rural northern area, not beside a rail station, so a rental car makes it much easier to combine with the bridge, forest walks or nearby countryside. The facility does provide transport for group and sports-camp bookings, but that is not the same as a regular free shuttle for individual bathers.
If Wednesday is your only day in Aya, pick another bath rather than building a route around a closed facility. Tattoos and other individual access questions are best checked with Ayakawasou before setting out; the published day-use notice does not spell out a tattoo policy.
