Aoshima and Kaeda Onsen Without a Car: Routes from Miyazaki Airport or Station

Reach Aoshima and Kaeda onsen from Miyazaki Airport or Station by shuttle, train, bus or taxi, with route limits and the trial shuttle end date.

Checked: September 27, 2026 In this part of Miyazaki, the nearest bath is not always the easiest one to reach. Aoshima Station puts one day-use onsen within a short walk; the Kaeda facilities sit farther inland, where missing a return bus can matter more than saving a few hundred yen on admission.

Starting point and priorityBest fitThe catch
Miyazaki Airport through September 30, 2026Aoshima by the trial direct shuttle; ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki is a stopThe ANA stop is drop-off only from the airport and pickup only on the return to the airport
Miyazaki Station, simplest rail optionShinwa-no-yu, about a three-minute walk from Aoshima StationCheck JR Nichinan Line service on your travel date
A low-temperature spring bathKonoha-no-yuOnly some buses serve the Natural Retreat Center stop; plan both directions first
A private room for your groupHonoka-no-yu KaedaIt is a taxi or car destination, not a convenient walk from Aoshima Station

For a short stop, keep the route to one bath. ANA and Shinwa-no-yu can make a sensible coastal half-day together; Konoha-no-yu and Honoka-no-yu are inland in Kaeda, so combining them with Aoshima in three or four hours usually means spending too much of the visit waiting for a ride.

From Miyazaki Airport: use the shuttle while it is running

Miyazaki Kotsu’s summer trial shuttle is the most direct airport connection, but it is temporary and can fill up:

Airport–Aoshima shuttleCurrent published detail
Operating periodJuly 1–September 30, 2026
Ride timeAbout 20 minutes
Adult / child fare, one way¥700 / ¥350 (elementary-school age and younger)
DeparturesNine from the airport; eight from Aoshima

The operator warns that passengers may be unable to board if the bus is full.

The stop rule at ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki is easy to miss: airport-bound buses can drop passengers there, but cannot pick them up for the short ride onward to Aoshima. In the other direction, the Aoshima-to-airport shuttle can pick up at ANA, but cannot drop passengers there from Aoshima. Treat it as a one-way hotel stop, not a regular hop-on, hop-off bus.

After September 30, do not carry this trial service into your itinerary. Check the current JR and regular bus schedules instead. The Aoshima sauna comparison can help narrow down which bath is worth building the route around.

From Miyazaki Station: the Aoshima stop is the low-friction choice

Shinwa-no-yu prohibits tattoos and bathing by children still in diapers. Its re-entry ticket does not include the separately booked private bath. See the single-facility guide for its bathing rules and water handling. The Holiday Inn’s direct airport shuttle is listed through September 30; confirm current service before relying on it.

Kaeda: check the return journey before setting out

Konoha-no-yu sits inland by the Miyazaki Natural Retreat Center, rather than by the coast-side rail stations. Its spring pool uses the source water at 32.7°C; the larger bath is also flow-through, but the spring water is heated. Admission is ¥500 for adults and ¥400 for children through junior-high-school age. The city lists a walking bath, an accessible bath that must be reserved, and separate wet and dry saunas for men and women.

Konoha-no-yu detailPublished information
Hours10 a.m.–9 p.m.; last entry 8:30 p.m.
ClosedTuesdays; if Tuesday is a holiday, the following day closes
Adult / child admission¥500 / ¥400 (junior-high-school age and younger)
Source poolAbout 32.7°C, used without heating
Main bathHeated source water, still described as flow-through

Some Miyazaki Kotsu buses go to the Natural Retreat Center stop, but many Aoshima or Aburatsu services do not. Find a specific outbound and return departure before you commit; a map pin alone will not tell you whether a workable bus home exists. Older spring-analysis figures are not the temperature of the heated bath, and published sauna descriptions conflict on which gender has the wet or dry room. Confirm on the day if either detail matters.

Honoka-no-yu Kaeda offers a different kind of visit: all 14 baths are private rooms with indoor and outdoor bathing options. Its baseline weekday rates are:

Room tierSessionStarting rate
Standard55 minutes¥2,500
Semi Premium55 minutes¥3,000

Seasonal pricingWeekend/holiday booking totals and high-season surcharges vary; check the final amount shown for your date
AccessAbout a 20-minute drive from central Miyazaki; 19 parking spaces

Honoka-no-yu requires a taxi from Aoshima, so include that fare instead of planning to walk between the two areas. Reserve ahead for a specific room or a busy date. Tattoo size and cover-up rules are unconfirmed; ask the operator if they affect your visit.

The Aoshima Six-Bath Pass does not solve the Kaeda transfer. Honoka-no-yu is a discounted private-bath venue, not a free visit under one pass slot; add the taxi fare before deciding whether the pass saves money. The pass guide compares what each participating bath actually includes.

For a short visit, pick one facility that matches your departure point. Trying to combine the coast and inland Kaeda in a few hours can turn the day into a wait for transport.
