Kushima Onsen Ikoi no Sato: Hours, Baths and the Drive to Cape Toi

Plan a Kushima stop at Ikoi no Sato, reopened on August 29, 2026. Adult admission is ¥600, and the two bathing areas have different sauna styles.

Checked: September 27, 2026

If your day has already taken you down to Cape Toi or Cape Ko, Ikoi no Sato makes a sensible last stop before driving north. This is a local bathhouse with hot-spring water and saunas, not a large resort spa; the main draw is having a proper soak in Kushima without backtracking to Miyazaki City.

It has reopened, and the day off is now clear

The public bath building closed for ceiling and wall repairs, then reopened on August 29, 2026. Current hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with last admission at 9:30 p.m. The regular closing day is the third Wednesday of each month. The operator has explicitly corrected an earlier notice that mistakenly said every Wednesday, so older pages may still show the wrong schedule.

Two baths, two kinds of sauna

The two bathing areas are called Medaka-yu and Hotaru-yu, and the men’s and women’s sides switch daily. Medaka has the larger layout, an electric bath, cold plunge and dry sauna. Hotaru is a little smaller and has a mist sauna. If you have a strong preference, ask which side is assigned that day; the gender rotation means the sauna you want is not guaranteed by the day of the week.

The spring is a sodium bicarbonate hot spring. The operator lists the source temperature as 38.2°C and the water used in the baths at 40–42°C, so those figures describe different points in the system. Both baths also have a cold bath. A separate locked bath is reserved for visitors with a disability certificate and their companions by advance appointment; it is not offered as a general family bath.

Make it the return stop, not a detour from town

From Miyazaki Station, the train to Kushima takes about 2 hours 11 minutes, followed by roughly 20 minutes on the Yoka Bus’s Honjo-Shiki line toward Koshima. The operator warns that trains and buses are infrequent, so check the connection in both directions before setting out. For most visitors, this works best as part of a rental-car trip through southern Nichinan and Kushima.

After Cape Toi, the late closing time leaves room for a bath and a shower before heading back. Just avoid assuming the restaurant will be open: dinner service currently runs Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. (last orders 8 p.m.). On other evenings, plan to eat elsewhere.

For a broader look at baths in the prefectural capital, see the Miyazaki City day-use onsen guide. If Kushima is one stop in a coastal drive, the Nichinan transport guide helps with the northern part of the route.
