Aoshima Private Onsen Comparison: Shinwa-no-yu or Cinq Male?
Compare Shinwa-no-yu and Cinq Male by price, spring flow, outdoor setting and booking; Cinq Male’s last daytime slot ends at 3:15 p.m.
Checked: September 27, 2026
The choice comes down to how much of the outing you want the bath to be. Shinwa-no-yu works for a private soak between Aoshima Station and the shrine. Hotel Aoshima Cinq Male is a separate coastal trip, best when an outdoor bath and Pacific view are worth arranging a fixed afternoon slot.
| Shinwa-no-yu | Cinq Male | |
|---|---|---|
| Private-bath charge | ¥1,800 per room for 60 minutes | ¥2,500 weekdays; ¥3,000 weekends/holidays; ¥3,500 designated dates, per 60-minute booking |
| Reservation | Required; last private-bath entry is 8 p.m. | Phone booking opens one week ahead; four daytime start times |
| Water | Spring water flows through the private bath | Natural spring at source, heated and partly recirculated |
| Setting | Near Aoshima Station | Outdoor annex with a coastal view, 1–2 minutes from the hotel |
| Main constraint | Evening bookings finish earlier than the public bath | Fixed daytime slots, exposed to weather; stairs at the entrance |
Shinwa-no-yu: easier to fit into a day in Aoshima
| Shinwa-no-yu detail | Published information |
|---|---|
| JR Aoshima Station | About 3 minutes on foot |
| Private rooms | Two; reservation required; ¥1,800 per room for 60 minutes |
| Private-bath water | Spring water flows through the bath rather than being recirculated |
| Spring classification | Alkaline simple sulfur cold mineral spring; pH 9.4 |
| Other source-water baths | Outdoor public bath and cold plunge |
Public-bath admission is a separate ticket, so check the booking terms if you plan to use both.
Private bathing ends earlier than the main bath: the current Japanese facility page gives 8 p.m. as the last private-bath time, while general admission continues until 10 p.m. with last entry at 9:30 p.m. The late window is still longer than Cinq Male’s, but it is not an all-evening private option. The facility does not admit guests with tattoos and asks visitors not to bring children who are still in diapers into the baths.
For two adults, the room-price gap is modest at Shinwa-no-yu but wider at Cinq Male:
| Two adults, 60 minutes | Published charge | Compared with two separate public tickets |
|---|---|---|
| Shinwa-no-yu private room | ¥1,800 | ¥400 more than two ¥700 public tickets |
| Cinq Male private room, weekday | ¥2,500 | ¥900 more than two ¥800 public tickets |
That comparison is about price only. The private room buys shared space and privacy; Cinq Male also adds the outdoor coastal setting.
For transport and basic facility details, see the Shinwa-no-yu guide. It is the more practical pick if the group is staying around Aoshima Station or wants to combine a shrine visit with a bath without arranging a car.
Cinq Male: a private outdoor bath with a narrower window
Cinq Male’s private baths sit in an annex about a one- to two-minute walk from the hotel. Day-use sessions last 60 minutes, beginning at 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2:15 p.m.; the last finishes at 3:15 p.m. Calls are accepted from one week before the visit. Current rates are ¥2,500 on weekdays, ¥3,000 on weekends and public holidays, and ¥3,500 on designated peak dates.
Those are separate reservations, not an extension of the hotel’s public-bath ticket. On September 30, 2026, the hotel lists a full closure; it reopens at 3 p.m. on October 1. Since the normal private-bath day-use slots end at 3:15 p.m., do not assume those rooms will be available on the reopening afternoon without confirming directly.
The spring emerges at 44°C, but the water is heated and partly recirculated without dilution. That is neither the bathing-pool temperature nor a continuous-flow system. Guests who value open-air bathing and a view may still prefer this setup; anyone choosing mainly for water handling will likely favour Shinwa-no-yu.
The annex has no roof, so rain reaches the bath and severe weather may stop use. There is no lounge, the changing room has no air conditioning, and about 15 steps lead to the entrance. Tattoos and tattoo stickers are prohibited. Party size and any mobility assistance should be confirmed with the hotel before booking.
This is a poor fit for a late arrival or a day plan that cannot keep a fixed appointment. The Cinq Male private-bath guide covers the weather, stairs and reservation details; the main Cinq Male guide explains its public bath and access.
The source comparison also scores the facilities on seven editorial criteria. These are not customer ratings or measured cleanliness data:
| Category | Shinwa-no-yu | Cinq Male |
|---|---|---|
| Bath comfort | 85 | 85 |
| Bath variety | 85 | 75 |
| Upkeep | 80 | 90 |
| Scenery | 70 | 100 |
| Quiet | 65 | 80 |
| Access | 100 | 55 |
| Overall experience | 100 | 85 |
The scores capture the practical trade-off: Shinwa-no-yu is easier to reach and less expensive, while Cinq Male’s private annex is the more distinctive outdoor-view experience. Recent guest feedback varies, so treat upkeep scores as a snapshot of the comparison rather than a guarantee for a particular date.
