Tsunagi Onsen Day Trip: Aishinkan, Hotel Shion or Seionso?
Compare day-use baths at Aishinkan, Hotel Shion and Seionso by facilities, lake views, price and seasonal opening dates.
Tsunagi Onsen sits beside Lake Gosho, west of Morioka. The local bus from Morioka Station takes about 30 minutes, so a day visit is feasible without a car. The harder part is choosing a bath that will actually be open to non-guests: several familiar accommodation names either restrict their day-use facilities or no longer accept bath-only visitors.
| Bath | Adult admission | Day-use window | Best reason to choose it | Check before going |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aishinkan | ¥1,200 weekdays; ¥1,400 weekends and holidays | 11 a.m.–4 p.m. weekdays; 11 a.m.–3 p.m. weekends and holidays | Several indoor and garden baths | Garden baths are unavailable to day visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays; no day-use on Wednesdays. |
| Hotel Shion | ¥1,200 weekdays; ¥1,400 weekends and holidays | 11 a.m.–4 p.m. weekdays; 11 a.m.–3 p.m. weekends and holidays | Lake Gosho and Mount Iwate views | Day visitors use only Hitorijime-no-yu; extra closure dates are posted. |
| Seionso | ¥800 | Varies by its seasonal calendar | Lowest entry price and a sauna | Its outdoor bath is currently closed for equipment repairs; confirm the calendar and hours. |
Aishinkan: the best bath variety, but weekday cleaning changes the offer
Aishinkan’s garden baths draw on the Jomon archaeological sites near Tsunagi Onsen. They include open-air baths and a 1.2-metre-deep standing bath. The weekday cleaning schedule matters more than the regular ticket price: from April 6, 2026, day visitors may use only the main public baths on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the facility stops accepting day visitors on Wednesdays. Thursday through Sunday is the better window if the garden baths are your reason for coming.
| Aishinkan day-use detail | Weekdays | Weekends and public holidays |
|---|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥1,200 | ¥1,400 |
| Child, age 3 through elementary school | ¥600 | ¥600 |
| Under 3 | Free | Free |
| Last admission | 3 p.m. | 2 p.m. |
The published spring data are 65.3°C at source and pH 9.1; the source temperature is not the temperature of each bathing pool.
The hotel lists wheelchair rental, bathing chairs and step-free features in parts of its public-bath area. If a particular transfer, shower layout or route is needed, call ahead to confirm which bath is open that day and whether it fits your needs.
Hotel Shion: choose it for the lake view, not for every bath in the hotel
Hotel Shion’s Hitorijime-no-yu looks out toward Lake Gosho and Mount Iwate. Day visitors can use that public bath; the hotel’s other bathing area, Nambu Magariya-no-yu, is not included in the day-use ticket. The restriction has been in place since June 2025, so photos or accommodation descriptions of both baths do not mean both are available to walk-in visitors.
| Hotel Shion day-use detail | Weekdays | Weekends and holidays |
|---|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥1,200 | ¥1,400 |
| Elementary-school child | ¥600 | ¥600 |
| Preschool child | Free | Free |
| Last admission | 3 p.m. | 2 p.m. |
| Bath closes | 4 p.m. | 3 p.m. |
The hotel’s September 1 notice lists no-entry dates of October 2, 8, 14, 22 and 29, 2026. Call the reservation desk at 019-689-2288 if your visit is near one of those dates or the hotel expects heavy traffic.
Seionso: lower admission, variable hours and a closed outdoor bath
Seionso charges ¥800 for adults and ¥450 for children aged three through elementary school. Its calendar determines which dates accept day visitors and when entry starts. On the once-weekly bath-draining cleaning day, opening shifts to 4 p.m.; the property may also shorten hours when guest numbers are high. The sauna is listed for 4–9 p.m., but check that the date you want is on the day-use calendar before building an evening around it.
The outdoor bath remains closed because of an equipment fault, according to the current facility notice. The indoor bath uses a mixed spring from two named sources; the published source temperature is 72.5°C and the temperature at the point of use is 42°C. The facility provides body wash and combination shampoo, but it does not rent towels. Bring your own or buy a small towel on site for ¥220.
Getting there from Morioka Station
Iwate Kenpoku Bus runs from Morioka Station’s east exit, stop 10, to the Tsunagi Onsen stop. The current fare list gives ¥670 one way, and the timetable takes roughly 30 minutes. That puts the basic adult return-trip cost at ¥1,340 before admission or towels. The accommodation-only Tsunagi Onsen liner is a separate service; day visitors should not assume they can board it.
The route is not frequent enough to leave the return trip until after bathing. The published timetable currently shows the last bus from Tsunagi Onsen at 6:10 p.m. on weekdays and 5:10 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Confirm the schedule for your travel date with the operator, and leave time to dry off, dress and walk to the stop. A late bath or an extended meal can mean a long wait or a taxi back to Morioka.
Tsunagi can pair with Koiwai Farm by car, but public transport connections are limited and should be checked as a complete day’s schedule rather than assumed. If you are building a wider Iwate itinerary, the Hanamaki day-trip guide covers a different base and transport pattern. For more bathing options nearby, compare Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo and the Hanamaki Onsen and Dai Onsen guide.
Which places are not day-use alternatives?
Yumori Hotel Taikan ended bath-only day use on October 31, 2025. Shikitei also says it does not accept visitors who only want to bathe. Their accommodation pages may still show attractive spring data or bathing photos, but they should not be counted as walk-in options. Tsunagi Onsen’s tourism association also says the district has no public bathhouse; there is a free footbath, but it is not a substitute for a day-use onsen.
For the simplest visit, choose Aishinkan on a Thursday through Sunday, or Hotel Shion when its posted closure calendar permits. Seionso costs less, though its opening calendar and current outdoor-bath closure narrow what is available. Whichever you choose, check the facility notice and the bus back to Morioka before leaving town.
