Yumotokan Day Bath in Imaita Onsen: Hours, Price and What to Expect

Yumotokan is an inn-style day bath in Agano, not a walk-in sento. Adult entry is ¥800 from April 2026; bathing runs in two separate daily windows.

Imaita Onsen is a small district in Agano’s Gozu Onsenkyo, and Yumotokan is its day-bathing option. The inn has indoor and outdoor baths in a quiet wooded setting. It works best if you want a ryokan bath and are willing to plan around the inn’s guest schedule; it is less convenient for a last-minute stop than a public bath with long opening hours.

Day-use hours and admission

Bath-only visitors are generally accepted from 10:30 am to 3 pm, then again from 6 pm to 9 pm. There is a three-hour gap in the afternoon when the baths are reserved for overnight guests. Yumotokan raised its adult day-bathing admission to ¥800 in April 2026.

The inn says it may ask visitors to wait or turn them away when it is busy, and it closes on some dates. A published time window is not a guarantee that the bath will be available on every day. Check the latest closure notice and call ahead if the bath is the main reason for visiting. In September 2026, for example, the inn listed a daytime-only closure for cleaning on September 3 while keeping the evening session open.

A cooler source, warmed for bathing

Yumotokan’s spring is around 20°C at the source, so the inn heats the water through a circulation system before it reaches a comfortable bathing temperature. Its FAQ describes the water as roughly 40°C after heating. The source water is not hot enough to fill the bath at a soaking temperature, so “100% spring water” should not be read as “unheated” or “flow-through.”

The inn describes its spring as a radium spring, a term commonly used in Japan for this type of water. The practical distinction here is the bath setup: you get a ryokan-style indoor bath and an outdoor bath, with heating needed because of the source temperature. The inn’s FAQ also notes that the property is not fully barrier-free: there are small level changes and steps on the way to the outdoor bath. Ask directly about access if stairs or uneven thresholds would be difficult.

Getting there without a car

From Suibara Station, take Agano City’s Gozu Onsenkyo bus to Imaita Onsen; Yumotokan says the inn is about a seven-minute walk from the stop. Check the city timetable for your travel date before setting out, since the route has limited departures. The return bus matters just as much as the ride in.

The inn also advertises a free shuttle from Niigata Station for guests who book directly, with advance reservations required. Its current shuttle notice says bath-only visitors cannot use the service. Do not assume that a free transfer advertised for overnight stays also applies to a ¥800 day bath.

Is Yumotokan the right stop?

Choose it when you want an inn setting, an outdoor bath and a longer soak than a quick stop at a communal bath. The ¥800 price buys a different environment from Murasugi’s lower-cost Yakushi no Yu; it does not mean one spring is objectively better. If you want to compare all three Gozu districts, start with the Gozu Onsenkyo day-bath comparison.

For a short no-car visit, check the bus first and make sure the bath window fits the connection back to Suibara. If you are already staying at the inn, the split day-use schedule matters less; for a stand-alone visit, it should shape the rest of the itinerary.
