Pearl Onsen near Osaka Castle: A Renovated Sento with a Daylit Sauna

Pearl Onsen near Midoribashi has a ¥600 bath and ¥200 sauna add-on with towel. The renovated sento also welcomes tattooed guests.

Pearl Onsen is a good fit for a short stop around Midoribashi, Morinomiya or Osaka Castle. The operator’s current page lists opening hours of 2 p.m.–midnight, with Wednesdays off. Adult admission is ¥600; adding the sauna costs ¥200 and includes a rental bath towel. The association places it about six minutes from Midoribashi Station, while the operator says roughly five, so allow five to six minutes on foot.

A small bathhouse shaped by the light

The operator took over the older Pearl-yu and reopened the renovated Pearl Onsen in March 2024. The front desk replaced the old reception layout, and the bathhouse now has a pearl-inspired, retro-modern look. Its most specific visual detail is the camellia stained glass above the bathing area: the operator notes that daylight can cast its colours onto the water. An afternoon visit gives that feature more chance to show than a late-night stop.

The baths on the men’s and women’s sides are unusually similar: both list deep and shallow tubs, the electric bath, bubbling reclining bath, jets, cold bath and sauna. That makes it easier for two people to plan around the same facilities without needing a gender-rotation day. Guests who skip the sauna still have several tubs to choose from.

The operator lists the sauna at around 85°C and the cold bath at about 16°C. These published settings are useful for comparison, but do not promise that the room or water will read identically every visit. If the stained glass is part of the appeal, go in the afternoon, when daylight can bring out its colours.

How the former Pearl-yu became Pearl Onsen

Yutonamisha’s transfer notice explains why this is a renovated sento rather than a new spa built from scratch. The group took over the former Pearl-yu in December 2023, closed it for repairs from January 2024, then reopened on March 21, 2024 as its tenth operated bathhouse. The renovation replaced the traditional reception counter with a front desk and refreshed the lobby around a pearl theme while keeping the original neighbourhood-bath scale and stained glass. The sauna and cold bath were brought back into service as part of the work.

In November 2025, Pearl Onsen received an Excellence Award in the service category of Osaka City’s 17th Akinai Grand Prix. Yutonamisha says the competition drew shops from roughly 240 shopping-district areas around the city. The award does not change the bathing facilities, but it is a more durable sign of the operation’s recognition than opening-week attention alone.

Getting there and planning the rest of your visit

Pearl Onsen accepts guests with tattoos under its operator-wide bathhouse policy. That rule applies to Yutonamisha-operated sento; it should not be assumed for unrelated public baths, hotels or large spas. There is no on-site car park, so the station is the easier arrival option. Pearl Onsen does not publish a current natural-spring analysis, source name, pH or flow rate; the word “Onsen” in its name is not evidence of natural spring water.

The operator presents Pearl Onsen as a running station for Osaka Castle, about a 30-minute walk away. One sensible plan is to run around the castle grounds and finish at Midoribashi for a bath; the operator also suggests changing at the bathhouse, running, then returning to bathe. A running-station setup should not be confused with storage for a large suitcase. Use a hotel or station locker for full-size travel luggage.

One website caveat: its feature page promotes craft gelato, while the detailed page still labels it “coming soon.” Availability may have changed, so check the bathhouse’s current social posts or ask before going specifically for dessert. The core visit—baths, sauna, cold bath and lobby—does not depend on the gelato counter.

There is no dedicated parking. Midoribashi is served by the Chuo and Imazatosuji lines; Morinomiya is one stop away on the Chuo Line. If driving, check nearby paid parking before setting out.

If you want a broader shortlist of modernized Osaka bathhouses, use the Osaka modern sento guide. For a wider neighbourhood view, the Higashinari sento guide includes other options east of the city centre.

Choose Pearl for the Midoribashi location, clear ¥800 bath-and-sauna price, matching facilities on both sides, tattoo-friendly policy and the 2024 retro-modern redesign. Around Kyobashi, Utopia Shiratama Onsen is a better fit if an early 6am opening and a much colder bath matter more. For an auto-loyly setup and modern sauna experience, compare COCOFURO Oomine-yu; for outdoor bathing and three timed steam sessions, see Ougi Onsen. The Higashinari guide covers nearby Shin-Fukae alternatives if you simply want the closest local bath.
