Yudonburi Sakaeyu in Asakusa: Natural Hot-Spring Water in Every Bath

Yudonburi Sakaeyu is a neighbourhood sento with a distinction that is easy to miss in a city full of “onsen” branding: the bathhouse says its tubs, showers and washing taps all use natural hot-spring water. The old-fashioned street front sits north of central Asakusa, between Minowa and Minami-Senju. It is a destination for the water and bathing choices, not the shortest walk from a station.

What the ¥600 admission covers

The ¥600 adult ticket covers the bathing areas; the ordinary sauna is a separate add-on. Children’s rates depend on school age.

The ticket includes the indoor and outdoor bathing areas: bowl-shaped “donburi” baths, a larger open-air bath, a medicinal bath and a high-concentration carbonated bath. Sakaeyu says the outdoor pools use natural spring water with nano-fine bubbles. Indoor options include jet and electric baths. Automatic steam and heat-wave cycles run about every 15 minutes, according to the facility FAQ.

The current lineup reflects several rounds of renovation: an outdoor bath and soft-water equipment in 2017; a carbonated bath and bubble plunge in 2020; sauna updates in 2021 and 2023; then a wood-fired trailer sauna, normal-temperature electric plunge and rest area between 2024 and 2025. Older descriptions may predate these additions.

The separate wood-fired trailer sauna is a different booking, not part of the ordinary sauna add-on. The trailer is listed around 80–90°C with a Harvia wood stove; the accompanying plunge is about 165 cm deep. That measurement is water depth, not temperature. It uses a timed reservation, so check the booking page for current price, session length and availability rather than assuming it is included in admission.

Check which bathing side is in use

Sakaeyu swapped the men’s and women’s bathing sides in May 2026. After a short trial, the new arrangement began on May 10 and the inn said it would keep the sides fixed for the time being, rather than rotate them daily or weekly. The side previously used by women is now the men’s bath, and the former men’s side is now used by women.

That matters if you are visiting for a particular sauna, plunge or outdoor-rest layout. Older reviews and equipment charts may still call a side “men’s” or “women’s” according to its former assignment. Check the facility’s latest notice if you have a specific feature in mind.

Yudonburi Sakaeyu allows guests with tattoos, according to its current FAQ. The property is open 2–11 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and noon–11 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays; last admission is 10:30 p.m. Wednesday is the regular closing day, with occasional extra closures for repairs. Minowa and Minami-Senju stations are about an 11-minute walk away. There are only three parking spaces, so do not count on driving in without checking.
