Koganeyu in Kinshicho: Morning Bath, Sauna and a Proper Meal After

Koganeyu is an easy one to misread as a quick neighbourhood bath with a photogenic bar. It can be that, but the morning opening, bookable sauna and second-floor Kogane Kitchen make a longer stop possible too. The key is to arrive in the right window: it closes for cleaning after the morning session, then reopens at 11 a.m.

The morning slot is a separate visit

The Tokyo branch has a morning session and a later session, separated by cleaning. It is closed on the second and fourth Mondays; check the calendar for occasional changes.

Bath-only rates changed in August 2026.

Sauna pricing varies by side of the bath and day of the week. The package price is one recent example, not a universal sauna rate; check the live booking page before budgeting.

The two sauna sides are not identical

The usual men’s sauna has automatic löyly about every 15 minutes, an outdoor-air rest area and a semi-open cold bath. The women’s room is smaller and offers self-löyly. The sides usually switch on Wednesdays, though the monthly schedule can make exceptions; check the current calendar if you are going for a specific layout.

Evening sauna slots can draw a queue. A reservation is sensible if you are travelling across Tokyo for a particular time, while a walk-in bath visit does not need to be planned around the sauna booking system. Koganeyu uses underground water and has carbonated and herbal baths, but it is not a legally designated natural hot spring.

A beer bar and café make the visit feel local

The front desk doubles as a beer bar and DJ space, with regular music events. The second-floor Kogane Kitchen serves coffee and meals such as lamb keema curry; its current listed hours are 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday and holidays, with last orders 30 minutes before closing. The café closes on the bathhouse’s regular holidays.

That gives you a straightforward way to stretch the visit: bathe or use the sauna, then eat upstairs. The bar’s craft-beer taps are for after the bath; drinking before a hot soak or sauna is a poor mix. Koganeyu also offers dormitory-style lodging, but room availability, price and what is included depend on the current booking plan. It is not a substitute for a private hotel room if you need one.
