Asakusa ROX Matsuri-yu: Skytree Views, Saunas and an Overnight Stay

Matsuri-yu makes sense after a long day around Sensoji or when you need somewhere to bathe, eat and rest before a late departure. The entrance is on the seventh floor of the ROX building, close to Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station. Its appeal is the package: a rooftop-style outdoor bath with a view toward Tokyo Skytree, several kinds of indoor bath, sauna, recliners, comics and food under one roof.

Price the visit by how long you will stay

Towels, indoor clothing and basic toiletries are included. Staying the full five late-night hours brings the adult total to ¥5,500 on a weekday or ¥5,830 on a weekend or holiday, before other spending. Shorter stays are charged in half-hour units.

Hours differ on Sundays. Monday through Saturday, the facility runs 10:30 a.m.–9 a.m. the next day, but the public baths close at 8 a.m. On Sunday, it closes at 11 p.m. and bathing ends at 10:30 p.m.; you cannot treat Sunday as an overnight stay. Holiday periods and maintenance can change the schedule, and the official site has posted date-specific opening notices, so check the notice for your visit.

A city spa, not a natural hot spring

The bath menu includes 11 types, such as the jade open-air bath, tourmaline bath, seawater-style bath, rotating baths, massage jets and waterfall showers. These are varied bathing experiences, but the facility does not identify a natural spring source or describe its pools as natural hot spring water.

Both men and women have Finnish and thermarium saunas; the women’s side also has a mist sauna. Facilities include a relaxation area with reclining seats, a women-only rest space, dining, games and more than 4,500 comics. The admission makes more sense if you plan to stay for several hours; a neighbourhood sento costs much less for a quick wash.

The outdoor bath is marketed for its Skytree view. Visibility depends on weather and the view from the bath itself; it is not a guaranteed landmark panorama from every spot.

Useful for luggage, with a few conditions

Large suitcases can be left at the front desk while you use the facility, which is handy after hotel checkout or before an overnight bus. This is guest luggage storage, not a locker service you can use after leaving Matsuri-yu.

The facility’s rules generally exclude guests with tattoos, but allow entry if all tattoos can be fully covered with up to two of its designated stickers. Children under junior-high age need to enter with a guardian. Unaccompanied guests aged 16 or older may stay only until 10 p.m. These rules matter if you are considering an overnight visit with teenagers.

Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station’s A1 exit is about a one-minute walk. Ginza Line Tawaramachi is roughly five minutes away; the Ginza, Toei Asakusa and Tobu stations called Asakusa are around eight minutes away. The one-minute estimate does not apply to every Asakusa station. ROX’s underground parking gives visitors two hours free, or up to four hours with ¥5,000 in facility spending.
