Kodai no Yu in Katsushika: A Half-Day Onsen with a Useful Weekday Discount

Check Kodai no Yu’s ¥2,680 adult entry or ¥1,320 weekday service-day rate, free shuttle access and 11 p.m. closing in Katsushika.

Kodai no Yu is a better fit for a planned half-day than for a last-minute 40-minute soak. It has several indoor and outdoor baths, three temperature levels in the open-air spring pools, multiple saunas, dining and rest areas. The easiest way to make the admission price work is to go on the service day that applies to you.

Check the calendar before comparing prices

Adult admissionPrice
Standard¥2,680
Women’s service day: Monday and Tuesday¥1,320
Men’s service day: Wednesday and Thursday¥1,320
Service day for all guests: Friday¥1,320
Children, age 0 through elementary school¥1,320

The admission price includes face and bath towels, in-house clothing and basic amenities. Guests can stay until closing without a time-based surcharge, but the building closes at 11 p.m. and last admission is 9:30 p.m. The facility does not offer overnight stays. Its former multi-visit tickets stopped being sold on 31 August 2026; already-purchased tickets remain usable through their printed validity period.

If you can choose your weekday, Friday is the simplest deal for couples or mixed-gender groups because both women and men receive the service rate. The Friends Club annual fee only makes sense for repeat visits on dates when the service price does not apply; it costs ¥3,300 to join and ¥2,200 to renew, with an adult entry price of ¥1,800.

The spring is unusually well documented

The facility’s February 2025 analysis lists a source temperature of 39.1°C, pH 7.8 and flow of 250 litres per minute. The spring is an iodide-bearing sodium-chloride strong-saline hot spring. It is not potable. Kodai no Yu does not publish a single bathing temperature for every pool, and does not describe every bath as free-flowing, so the source figures should not be read as a promise about the water in each tub.

The outdoor spring baths are arranged in three levels: the upper bath is listed at 40–42°C, the middle at 39–41°C and the lower at 38–40°C. Start at the lower level if you prefer a milder soak. Indoors there are additional spring baths, a cypress bath, walking bath, bubble baths, high- and medium-temperature saunas, a steam sauna and a cold bath.

Two private family baths can be reserved after admission at the towel counter. Each costs ¥3,300 for one hour, in addition to each visitor’s entry fee. Reservations are same-day only, accepted from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; use runs until 10:30 p.m. and cannot be extended. One bath is round stone, the other rectangular cypress.

Plan around the shuttle, not just the station name

The complex is in Okudo, Katsushika, rather than next to a rail station. Free shuttles run from Shin-Koiwa, Kameari, Kanamachi and Aoto. Timetables can shift with traffic, so check the current departure board before leaving; arriving just after a bus has gone can add a long wait. Driving is simpler for groups, with about 450 parking spaces available free to facility users.

Guests with tattoos, tattoo stickers or body paint are not admitted. Children under 7 cannot use the opposite-gender bath or changing room; children under 7 who are over 120 cm are also restricted. Anyone under junior-high age must arrive with a guardian. These rules matter for family groups, even though children have a published admission price and private family baths are available.

Come early enough to use more than the baths. At the standard rate, arriving close to the 9:30 p.m. last-entry time leaves little value in an admission designed for a longer stay. Check the facility’s current shuttle timetable before travelling; the nearest rail station name alone will not get you to the entrance.
