YUEN SHINJUKU: Standard Rooms vs the New Hakone Onsen Suite

Compare YUEN Shinjuku’s rooftop shared bath with the ONSEN Suite, scheduled to open on 16 November 2026; check construction and restaurant notices.

The choice at ONSEN RYOKAN YUEN SHINJUKU now comes down to how you want to use the hot spring. Standard-room guests can already visit the 18th-floor communal bath, where the outdoor tubs use water transported from Hakone. The new ONSEN Suite brings that water into the room itself, but stays are scheduled to begin on 16 November 2026. If sharing a public bath is fine, there is no reason to wait for the suite just to try the Hakone spring.

The suite solves one specific problem

YUEN’s rooftop public bath is for overnight guests only. It has an indoor bath and an outdoor bath on each side, but the Hakone water is used in the outdoor baths; the indoor baths are not hot springs. The source is Tsutsuji-no-yu at Odakyu Hotel de Yama by Lake Ashi, carried to Shinjuku. It is an alkaline simple hot spring. Guests in standard rooms use the public baths separately by gender.

The ONSEN Suite is for people who want privacy or want to bathe together in their room. The hotel plans four suites: a 50-square-metre double and a 62-square-metre twin, each for up to four guests. Both include a private bath using the same transported Hakone source. The rooms are designed in a modern Japanese style, with a raised area you enter without shoes. Rates were not stated in the announcement, so compare the live booking price rather than assuming the upgrade amount.

UDS announced the new Family Room as well, with reservations expected to open in October 2026 and stays planned from March 2027. It is not a private-onsen alternative: the suite is the specific room type that includes a hot-spring bath.

Dates matter more than the room category

The hotel’s existing restaurant closed on 31 May 2026. No food is being served in the building through 31 October; a replacement restaurant is planned for November, without a confirmed opening day in the cited notice. For September and October stays, plan breakfast and dinner outside the hotel.

Construction is scheduled from 22 June 2026 through 28 February 2027. The hotel says guestrooms and the public bath remain open, but noisy work may occur from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with workers on site from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This matters if you expect to spend the day in your room, work remotely or nap. Check the latest notice before the cancellation deadline.

The shared bath currently closes at 2 a.m. and reopens at 6 a.m. From 1 November, evening hours shorten to 3 p.m.–12:30 a.m., with last entry at midnight; morning hours remain 6–10 a.m., with last entry at 9:30. Suite guests have their own bath, but anyone booking a standard room after late-night plans should account for the earlier cutoff.

Stay here for a hotel, not as a day-use bath

The public bath is limited to hotel guests; it is not open for a separate day-use admission, before check-in or after check-out. Shinjuku-sanchome Exit C7 is about an eight-minute walk, and Shinjuku-gyoemmae Exit 3 is roughly seven minutes away. The hotel has no parking lot.

Tattoo rules are not clearly stated in the hotel information cited here. Ask the hotel before booking if this would affect your stay. For a private-bathing decision across different types of facilities, see the guide to bathing together in Japan; if you are looking for a bath without an overnight stay, start with the Tokyo day-use onsen guide.
