Masutomi Onsen Day Use in 2026: Which Baths Are Open?

Masutomi no Yu is closed during rebuilding, with January 2027 planned for reopening; compare Furokaku’s limited one-hour indoor bath and call ahead.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Old listings for Masutomi Onsen can be misleading because the public bath, one ryokan’s short visit and another inn’s suspension are three different situations. As of the city’s June 15, 2026 notice, Masutomi no Yu is still closed for construction, with reopening planned for January 2027. Furokaku accepts limited day visitors under advance-confirmation rules. Tsuganerou’s own site says day bathing is on hold.

Furokaku: call before making the mountain trip

Furokaku’s current day-use notice lists a one-hour visit between 12:30 and 2 pm for ¥1,000 per person. It does not accept day visitors every Tuesday or on the inn’s other closure days. The inn may also refuse entry when overnight guest numbers or crowding make it impractical. Call ahead; reservations by phone are accepted from three days before, with booked visitors given priority.

The basic day ticket covers the indoor baths, not the well-known natural rock bath. The longer rest plan includes indoor and rock-bath use with a private room.

The inn also says a private bath can be added to the rest plan for ¥2,000 per hour with advance reservation. Confirm that add-on when booking, since older static pages may not reflect the current offer.

Do not treat the other two baths as automatic backups

Masutomi no Yu is undergoing a larger rebuild, not taking an ordinary maintenance day. Hokuto City says the bathhouse is being newly constructed and the dining building renovated; its current target is January 2027. Rates and facilities should be checked again after it reopens.

Tsuganerou still welcomes overnight guests, but its present website says day-use bathing is suspended. Some tourism directories continue to show older “ask first” or “available” labels. For a same-day decision, use the inn’s direct notice rather than assuming those listings are current.

There is limited bus service between Nirasaki Station and the Masutomi Onsen area. Because Furokaku’s day-use window is short and admission can be refused, confirm a place first, then check the bus timetable for your exact date. A bus reaching the area is not a guarantee that a bath will be available.

For other Hokuto day-use options, compare Panorama no Yu and Enmei no Yu or look at Ojiro no Yu and Mukawa no Yu.
