Kobe Minato Onsen Ren vs Tsuki-no-Yufune: Which Kobe Day Spa Fits?

Compare Ren and Tsuki-no-Yufune by full-ticket cost, 33°C source bath, natural seawater, sauna, child and tattoo rules, buses and parking.

Ren is the easier choice from Sannomiya and comes with towels, loungewear and a drink, but its day-use ticket costs several times more than Tsuki-no-Yufune’s full bathing pass. Tsuki-no-Yufune is out in Tarumi: you trade a longer trip for a 33°C source-flow bath, a natural seawater pool and lower admission. The right pick depends on whether you want a polished half-day spa near central Kobe or a more affordable bathhouse outing.

At first glance, the ¥500 Tsuki-no-Yufune ticket looks like the obvious bargain. It only covers the indoor bath. For the outdoor hot spring and sauna, use the full ticket price in the table. Ren’s higher rate includes towels, loungewear, bath amenities and one drink, so the gap is not a like-for-like comparison of admission alone.

Pick Ren when central access and an easy half day matter

From Sannomiya, Ren’s free shuttle makes the waterfront location straightforward. Its regular day-use bath opens at 6 a.m., and the ticket includes the basics you might otherwise need to bring or rent. The first-floor public baths are open to day visitors; the panoramic tenth-floor bath belongs to the hotel stay and is not part of ordinary day-use admission.

Ren’s spring comes from beneath the property. If you want a source-bath experience without travelling to the western edge of the city, this is the more convenient option. The trade-off is price: ordinary day-use admission is ¥2,715 on weekdays and ¥3,155 on weekends and public holidays. Special operating periods have a separate rate, so check the official fee page around holiday dates.

Pick Tsuki-no-Yufune for lower prices, children or a cooler source bath

Tsuki-no-Yufune suits visitors who want a lower-priced full bath ticket and a choice of water temperatures. The outdoor area also includes a natural seawater bath, which is not a second hot spring.

Tsuki-no-Yufune full ticketWeekdayWeekend / public holiday
Adult¥1,000¥1,030

The Nenamachi source bath is 33°C; Nozomi-no-Yu is around 41.5°C. The seawater bath is a separate feature.

Children can use Tsuki-no-Yufune’s bathing facilities under its age and mixed-bathing rules, while Ren’s day-use facility is restricted to visitors aged 12 and over. Tsuki-no-Yufune is also the more practical choice for drivers: it lists free parking for 150 cars. By public transport, allow time for the bus and the final walk; this is not a quick detour from Sannomiya.

At Tsuki-no-Yufune, the full ticket is the one that includes the outdoor baths and sauna; the ¥500 indoor-only ticket does not. Children aged four through elementary-school age have a ¥450 full-ticket rate, and infants may bathe under the facility rules. The bathhouse bars mixed bathing across genders from age seven. A ¥350 towel set makes a weekday full visit about ¥1,350 if you arrive without towels.

Ren’s day-use base rate includes its first-floor public baths, towels, loungewear, amenities and one drink. Its bedrock bath costs another ¥1,100 and the Oceans Spa pool another ¥2,200; seasonal pool events can use different package prices. The tenth-floor panoramic bath is for hotel guests, not day visitors. Both facilities have a natural-spring bath, but Tsuki-no-Yufune’s seawater pool is a separate water feature, not a second hot spring.

For Tsuki-no-Yufune, the final leg by bus matters: from Tarumi or Sanyo-Tarumi, ride toward Tsutsujigaoka and walk about five minutes from Miyamadai; from Myodani, take the bus toward Aoyamadai and walk about five minutes from Matsukazedai. The facility lists 150 free parking spaces. Ren is easier from central Kobe, with a free Sannomiya shuttle and the Shinko-cho stop close by; its day-use parking is free for seven hours, then ¥300 per 30 minutes.

Check these rules before you go

Ren’s general day-use notice says guests with tattoos are not admitted regardless of size. Its detailed FAQ describes a limited exception for fashion tattoos completely covered by up to four of its paid cover stickers. Since those statements do not line up cleanly, contact Ren before travelling if the rule affects you. Tsuki-no-Yufune states that tattooed guests may not enter.

Both facilities are open late, but neither is a 24-hour rest stop: the baths close at midnight. Ren is the better fit for an early start from central Kobe; Tsuki-no-Yufune suits a longer west-Kobe outing, especially if you plan to drive. See the Ren day-use guide, the Tsuki-no-Yufune guide and the Kobe day-use onsen guide for more detail.
