Matto Kaihin Onsen: A Seaside Bath Beside the Hokuriku Expressway
This ¥530 bathhouse by Tokumitsu Parking Area has an outdoor bath and sauna. It opens at 5 a.m. except Mondays, when it opens at 10 a.m.
Matto Kaihin Onsen, also called Otsukarisama or CCZ Onsen, is most useful when it fits your route. Drivers can walk over from Tokumitsu PA on either side of the Hokuriku Expressway, making it a rare place to soak during a long drive without exiting and re-entering the highway.
It opens at 5am except Monday, when opening time is 10am.
Adult admission is ¥530 (about HK$27 / NT$108).

The operator lists an indoor bath, an outdoor bath and a sauna, with shampoo and body wash provided. A shallow section in the main pool gives smaller children somewhere to stand; the far end has a reclining-bath section. On a clear evening, the bath area may catch the sun setting over the Sea of Japan. Treat the view as weather-dependent, not a guaranteed sunset seat.
The third-Saturday ¥200 rate is a Hakusan resident benefit for people who can show proof of residence. Visitors should budget the regular admission. A local-rail visit is possible, but the bath is not beside Matto Station: the operator says it is about ten minutes by car, and the city’s Meguuru community bus has a stop called Kaihin Onsen. That bus is local transport with limited departures, so check the 2026 timetable in both directions before planning a soak around it.
The Tokumitsu PA route is the main reason to stop
The bathing facility is adjacent to the Tokumitsu seaside park complex. The operator says the PA is about a one-minute walk away; the tourism listing says visitors can reach it on foot from the parking area. Dedicated pedestrian links connect the facility with the parking areas serving both traffic directions. Follow the signed pedestrian route rather than walking along the expressway itself.
There is also access from public roads and a parking lot at the facility. Matto Station is about ten minutes away by car, and the operator estimates roughly 15 minutes by car from central Kanazawa. If the bath is the only reason to travel from Kanazawa without a car, the limited local-bus timetable makes it a less convenient choice than a city bath. If you are already driving the Hokuriku route, the detour is minimal.
For visitors coming from the beach, the operator asks bathers to wash off sand at the outdoor showers and change out of swimwear before entering. The sea is nearby, but this is not a place to walk directly from the shore into the changing room.
A practical bath rather than a resort stop
Matto’s appeal is the combination of an early opening, a modest entry fee, an outdoor pool and highway access. It also has a restaurant, a children’s area and a relaxation room, so the stop can last longer than a quick rinse. The standard admission is still just for bathing; food and any optional services are separate.
The official site posted a notice on 18 September 2026 about second-floor restroom renovation work. It says those toilets will be unavailable during the work and that the bath will close temporarily for five days during demolition; first-floor and changing-room toilets remain usable during the broader construction period. The notice does not state the demolition dates, so check the latest operator announcement or call before a near-term visit.
Matto is the right pick for a highway break, a dawn soak or a swim-and-bath day when you can change first. It is a weaker choice for a spontaneous public-transport excursion: the community bus does serve the area, but its timetable, rather than the ¥530 ticket, determines whether the return trip works. If your route is inland through the foothills instead, Kobo-no-yu at Bird Humming Torigoe is a different Hakusan-area bath with a sauna and a gorge-side setting.
