Yupo-Po or Laspa Takazaki? Two Day-Use Baths in Miyakonojo

These two baths are both north of Miyakonojo, but they answer different questions. Yupo-Po has a broad choice of tubs and 12 private family rooms. Laspa Takazaki is the one to consider if a low-cost flowing natural spring is the priority. Do not use Laspa’s older equipment descriptions as a current checklist.

Yupo-Po: easier for families and groups

Yupo-Po has 26 bath types across its men’s and women’s areas: indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna, cold bath, walking bath, and jet and exercise pools. The spring is classified as sodium bicarbonate.

Hours are 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday–Saturday, and from 7 a.m. on Sundays and the first three days of the year. Last entry is 9 p.m. Monthly closure dates vary.

The family-bath wing has 12 rooms, with water replaced between groups. A one-hour booking costs ¥1,470; each extra 30 minutes is ¥730. Weekday phone bookings open at noon for same-day use. Weekend and holiday bookings open at 8:30 a.m. Room six is an accessible bath, reserved for guests who need it, and can be booked up to a week ahead.

Yupo-Po is about a 16-minute walk from Tanigashira Station on the Kitto Line, or around 14 minutes by car from Miyakonojo IC. A taxi may be more comfortable with children or luggage.

Laspa: a clear spring claim, with a changing equipment list

The operator identifies the water as a sodium-bicarbonate/chloride spring and describes the bath as source-fed. The bath page gives no source temperature or pH.

The official site’s general feature list still mentions a hot-spring pool, two sauna types and a walking bath. More recent notices override that general description: the pool operation ended in January 2026; an August 6 notice says an earthquake damaged the men’s walking-bath pipeline; and an August 7 update says the men’s steam sauna has ended operation. The men’s walking bath was still marked unavailable in the latest notice reviewed, which said repairs were not expected before winter. Check again before travelling, as repair timing can change.

Laspa is open 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m., last entry at 8:30 p.m. Its listed gym is a separate membership product; do not assume a bath ticket grants access. The gym terms also distinguish tattoo rules: covered tattoos may be accepted at the gym, but tattoos are not allowed in the hot spring.

If your group needs a private bath or a wider mix of usable pools, Yupo-Po is the safer plan. If you are going to Laspa for the spring itself, its current bathing facilities are still useful, but confirm the specific pool or sauna you intend to use.
