Takebe Yahata Onsen: Prices and Access
This northern Okayama day-use bath has several pool temperatures, a sauna and a family bath booked on arrival. JR Fukuwatari Station is a 15–20-minute walk.
Takebe Yahata Onsen is a useful rural stop if you want a full bathhouse without going as far as Okutsu or Yubara. The standard visit includes indoor and outdoor pools, a reclining bath and sauna; a separate family bath is available for private use. From Okayama Station, the operator estimates about an hour by car. Without a car, the simplest approach is the walk from Fukuwatari Station on the JR Tsuyama Line.

The bathing area has hot, cooler and source-water pools, plus a reclining bath, outdoor bath and sauna. The operator describes the source as an alkaline simple hot spring, pH 8.6, and says the facility has spring-water flow-through pools. That wording confirms such pools are available; it does not say that every bath uses identical water treatment.
The key choice is the temperature gradient: one bath can feel too hot while another is easier for a longer soak. The current facility information identifies source-water flow-through bathing but does not support calling every pool 100% spring-fed. Outdoor stone and wooden baths switch by date, on the 15th and at month-end; if a specific style is the reason for going, check which side is open.
The outdoor stone and wooden baths switch on the 15th and at the end of each month. If you have a preference, check with the facility before visiting. Shampoo and rinse-in-one shampoo/body wash are provided; towel prices are listed separately.
The family bath is first-come, not phone-bookable
The private family bath costs ¥2,000 for one hour for up to four people. One extra hour can be added for ¥2,000, for a maximum of two hours. For groups larger than four, each additional person per hour is ¥500 for an adult or ¥400 for a child; younger children are free.
Registration runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but it can end earlier once all available slots are taken. The operator does not accept reservations by phone, so this is not a facility where you can secure a time in advance. Its published price page presents the family bath as a separate charge; if you also want to use the public baths, ask the front desk how to handle admission for your group.
The operator says the family bath can accommodate families with young children and wheelchair users. Contact the facility directly if your visit involves transfer assistance, a particular support need or questions about the room layout.
Registration opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. or earlier if the day’s slots are taken. It is not a phone-bookable private room. Ask at the counter how public-bath admission is handled if you intend to use both the family room and the shared baths; do not assume the ¥2,000 room charge replaces each person’s regular entry ticket.
Getting there by train, bus or car
JR Fukuwatari Station is a 15–20-minute walk from the onsen. The Mitsu-Takebe community bus also connects the station and Yahata Onsenkyo, but it runs Monday through Saturday only and does not operate on Sundays, public holidays or January 1–3. The operator publishes a timetable on its access page; check it against the JR train schedule and your return plan before relying on the bus.
Drivers can use the free 200-space Yahata Onsenkyo car park, about a one-minute walk away. The facility’s own parking area is reserved for visitors with disabilities. The operator estimates about one hour by car from Okayama Station.
A few rules to know before you go
Takebe Yahata Onsen does not admit guests with tattoos. Children in elementary school or younger must be accompanied by a guardian, and mixed bathing is not allowed for anyone aged seven or older or at least 120 cm tall. Food and drink brought from outside are not permitted inside.
The bath is open on Tuesdays, but the restaurant is closed that day. On other days, the restaurant operates from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with last orders at 1:45 p.m. The outdoor footbath is free and normally open 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; it is separate from admission to the bathing area.
The free footbath is an easy, low-commitment stop if you are waiting for a train, but it is not a substitute for the bathing ticket. The family room, accessible-use details and regular pools are separate facility choices; call ahead if your party relies on a particular accessibility arrangement rather than inferring it from the general wheelchair information.
For a visit focused on northern Okayama’s more remote hot-spring towns, compare the Okutsu day-use options or browse the Yubara Onsen day-trip guide. Takebe is the easier fit when you are already travelling through the Okayama–Tsuyama corridor and can allow time for the walk from Fukuwatari.
