Osawa or Namari Onsen? Choose by the Bath You Want

Compare Osawa’s four-bath day pass with Namari’s deep Shirozaru-no-yu, including admission, women-only hours and bus fares from Hanamaki Station.

Osawa Onsen and Namari Onsen are both day-trip stops on the Yukuchi Line south of Hanamaki, but they reward different plans. At Osawa, one ¥700 adult ticket covers four baths spread between Tojiya and Sansuikaku. At Namari, Fuji Ryokan’s draw is Shirozaru-no-yu, a naturally fed rock bath deep enough for standing immersion. The useful distinction is variety versus one unusually distinctive pool, not the ¥100 difference in adult admission.

From Hanamaki Station, the published adult bus fares are ¥670 each way to Osawa and ¥780 to Namari. Including an ordinary day-use ticket, that comes to about ¥2,040 for Osawa or ¥2,360 for Namari, before towels, food or any local transport. Both are on the same line, but service is not frequent enough to treat the valley like an urban hop-on route. Check the return bus before setting out.

Opening and bath availability can change for cleaning, maintenance or crowd control. Osawa says some pools may be unavailable at certain times; Fuji Ryokan publishes separate cleaning information and 2026 day-use closure dates. Confirm the facility notice for your date rather than assuming all four baths will be open.

Pick Osawa for a varied, lower-cost soak

Osawa’s four-bath ticket is useful when you want to try different layouts in one visit. Toyosawa-no-yu is a gender-separated semi-open-air bath with showers and basic toiletries. Yakushi-no-yu is a separate indoor bath. The riverside Osawa-no-yu is mixed gender, while Kawabe-no-yu is a women-only outdoor bath.

There are practical differences between those pools. Osawa-no-yu does not allow swimwear or a towel wrapped around the body, and it has no shower. Its women-only hour is 8–9 p.m. Kawabe-no-yu is also not a place to wash with shampoo or soap. If you want a more conventional wash before soaking, Toyosawa-no-yu or Yakushi-no-yu is the easier starting point.

Pick Namari for Shirozaru-no-yu and the spring-source details

Fuji Ryokan states that all four of its baths use 100% source water without heating, dilution or recirculation; it also says the showers use source water. Its five sources and the stated spring temperature of 57°C are facility-wide information, not a promise that every pool itself is 57°C.

Shirozaru-no-yu is the most unusual of the four: water rises directly into a natural-rock bath with an average depth of about 1.25 metres. It is a standing bath, not a conventional pool with a shallow ledge. That depth can be a poor fit for small children, anyone with balance or mobility concerns, and visitors uncomfortable in deep water.

The official bath page lists it as mixed gender, with women-only periods at 6–7 a.m., 11 a.m.–1 p.m. and 8–10 p.m. For day visitors, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. is the useful daytime window; the morning slot is before day-use opens, and the evening slot runs only one hour into day-use closing.

The other baths make Namari more than a one-pool visit. Katsura-no-yu is gender-separated and has indoor and riverside outdoor baths. Shiraito-no-yu is a semi-open-air bath facing the direction of Shiraito Falls, with access divided by time. Gin-no-yu also uses scheduled access and has a private-use period for day visitors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; ask the ryokan about the current procedure and availability before planning around it.

Plan around the return bus

The fares in the table cover the bus and bath only; towels, meals and any later fare changes are extra. Because these are mountain stops rather than a compact town-centre circuit, check the return timetable before you leave Hanamaki Station.

Do not assume Fuji Ryokan’s pickup is available to day visitors: the inn describes its shuttle as a reservation-based service for guests. For a public bath visit, plan around the route bus unless the property confirms otherwise.

For a wider choice of public baths in the valley, see our Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo day-trip guide. The Hanamaki Onsen and Dai Onsen guide covers a separate part of the area.

Tattoo policy

Neither property clearly states a tattoo policy for day visitors. If that affects your choice, ask the inn you plan to visit before setting out.
